Winter Affords Unique Bridge Maintenance Opportunity

Two excavators carefully made tracks to clear logjams at CN Rail bridge

Prince George, BC – It is not something you see everyday – two excavators making tracks across the ice to clear logjams from the CN rail bridge abutments in the Fraser River…

A CN rail spokesperson says the debris build-up is typically cleared every two or three years to prevent the jams from affecting the bridge’s integrity.

He says the lower river levels and ice in the winter afford the only opportunity to do this work, and minimize any impact on the river bed.

The equipment was able to clear jams from the west side of the bridge to a about two-thirds of the way across the Fraser – it was unsafe to do so on the remaining third.

Update: this photo just submitted of one of the machines at work…

Did fisheries allow this?

I am sure they know about it. by the way, no fish at this time of year.

No fish?
Where do they go for the winter?
metalman.

They must be gone to school in Arizona.

No salmon yes, but other fish are still there.

“other fish” Are they good eating? How big do they get? Do they have scales? Do they have bones? Do they have gill or lungs?Do you fish them or trap them?
Can I buy them at the local fish store?
Are they tasty? Are they related to the northern Pike? Do they date the regular fish? Regular fish are the souther Pike?
