Prince George, B.C.- It has been a long renovation, but the there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
The Keg Restaurant on George Street is hoping to officially re-open to the public on the afternoon of March 19th.
The renovated space features state of the art technology in sound and lighting, a media room for video conferences featuring a 55” Sony TV, which is one of 6 big screen tvs in the Keg.
There are wine walls everywhere, and 25 pieces of original artwork from all over the province.
There are 7 fireplaces in the facility which has the capacity to seat 400 people. That’s enough seating for 210 in the restaurant, 130 in the bar, and another 60 in the outdoor patio which will feature a huge waterfall, fireplace and state of the art digitally infused glass.
(at right, one of the cozy booths)
The new Keg has distilled and filtered water stations, and the kitchen includes a custom built 1800 square inch grill that was built in Winnipeg.
The call is out for new staff, as the restaurant will have 150 employees and 4 managers. Applications are being taken now from 1-4 p.m Monday to Friday at the Keg on George Street.
Owner Kelly Nordin says the new Keg will be nothing Prince George has ever seen before.

Will be nice to see a high class restaurant open up in downtown.
A reno this long is something Prince George has never seen either!
I wonder who will be able to afford to go there?
After reading the article I get the distinct impression the prices on the menu will be high class also.
Just stay home, no one will miss you.
“The new Keg has distilled and filtered water stations,..”
That is a waste of money!
According to the city and specifically Councilor Cameron Stolz we already have the finest, purest, highest quality tap water in the world!
Oh, let’s see: The tap water is actually *fortified* (whether we like it or not) by fluoridation with hexafluorosilicic acid – the industrial scrubber effluent which is contaminated with traces of lead, arsenic, cadmium and so forth!
Just like all the mills, offices, institutions and thousands of private citizens everywhere in Prince George – nobody who is in the know actually drinks the water straight from the tap!
They all spend extra money and buy their CLEANED water from local water distilleries!
I’m looking forward to finally being able to enjoy the Keg again!
What do I do after the Keg?
Would be GREAT if I could go to a place where I could dance off the food or hear a great band-but there is no place like that in pg.bc.
Now Ric’s Grill will have to pull up their socks. They have had virtually a free ride for years now, in terms of competition from The Keg. Even before The Keg closed for renos, Rics out did them in quality and service, but with the big makeover nearly complete, a lot of people will cross the street to see what is new.

Looking forward to checking it out! As for Ric’s, the lack of competition didn’t do them any good in my opinion. Metalman has it right, they need to pull up their socks!
“The Keg. Even before The Keg closed for renos, Rics out did them in quality and service!” Really metalman? Rics Grill is a dissapointment to higher class establishments everywhere. There food is terrible! You get a better steak at Jakes without the stuck up waitress. The Keg’s food, service and ambience was better before the reno, now it will just blow Ric’s away!
With my taxes, gas prices and everything else going up in price almost daily, I feel I am used to the “ambiance” at my local Tim’s. (with a correct and appropriate apostrophe).
Never had a meal I didn’t like at Ric’s . No stuck up waitress’s that i noticed. Maybe stop looking at them like they are the meal or patting them on the butt as they go by. Might help .Just sayin.
Years ago I discovered the classy digs Rics Grill maintains in Kelowna. After that going to that somewhat dingy Rics on George Street simply wasn’t on my menu anymore!
And to think that they actually got started HERE in PG made me unwilling to still be considering them. Somehow I felt we in PG were being thought of as second class customers.
After all, a buck is a buck whether it’s spent in Kelowna or in PG.
Call Restaurant Makeover. The place needed one many years ago already.
I have to agree with the comments regarding Ric’s. They’ve fallen down in recent years, compared to where they were when they started.
Hopefully someone sees this and takes a hard look at their menu and food preparation. When the Keg comes back, look out!
Yay for the Keg! Can’t wait to see what’s on the menu… hopefully some old fav’s :)
It was noted on the IPG website about The Keg. What role did IPG play concerning the renovations there? Be specific.
Ric’s in Lethbridge is first class… here in town I wasn’t impressed at all with the service.
If the Keg uses words for their prices on their menus, then you will know it is expensive.
Although I may seem to disparage Rics, I have never had a bad meal there, and the service has been good 90% of the many times we have patronized their grotty little establishment. It’s just that the prices have risen so much, we find it hard to afford anymore.
Mr Jakes makes a good steak, but only because they are marinated in tenderizer for a minimum of two days. The steaks at Rics are not subjected to that humiliation.
metalman.
“If the Keg uses words for their prices on their menus, then you will know it is expensive.”
And you know that it will be super expensive if they have blind menus available with NO prices on the menu.
If you have to ask, you really do not have the money to dine in the place. ;-)
Ric’s service is amongst the worst. Last time we had to wait while the hostess finished telling her story to a waiter. Then she looked at us like we were interupting. Other Ric’s are top notch, better food , better service. I think the Keg looks like it did a refreshing reno. Looking forward to it.
