CN Hopes to Re-Open Line By Midnight

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 @ 9:54 AM
Prince George, B.C.- It will likely be midnight tonight before the CN rail line between Prince George and Prince Rupert can re-open.

Yesterday, 46 coal cars bound for Prince Rupert, derailed near Telkwa just before 2 in the afternoon.

The cause of the derailment is not yet known. There were no injuries, and no environmental concern.

Last week, CN announced it would be spending significant amounts of money to upgrade its system. CN said it would be spending  $1 billion  ( of its $1.75 billion capital plan) on track infrastructure, including replacing ties and other track materials and bridge improvements throughout its system. The company said it also plans rail-yard and technology improvements.  Those improvements include the Prince George to Prince Rupert line.
