City’s Budget Finalized

Thursday, February 23, 2012 @ 4:15 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Council has wrapped up its budget discussions, and it means the City will have to collect 3.23% more money to satisfy it’s financial commitments.
How that will translate into a tax increase, has yet to be determined.
Council has yet to decide on how the burden will be divided among the different groups in the city.
The revenue increase reflects two additions to the budget, namely $70 thousand for the P.G. Air roundtable, and a further $50 thousand for the Prince George Library.
Those are the only two increases Council approved.

Kept the additions low key this year. Good for them.

Do you think that a tax reduction would ever be possible?

I think more tax burden needs to be transferred to the downtown businesses… why always the home owners picking up the tab and all the outrageous spending being on the downtown related projects?

I can not afford to continue subsidizing the downtown when my street is full of pot holes, and I don’t have city sewer, or proper curbs, and overhead power… and yet pay $2600 a year in property taxes. They need to find someone else to pay for all their wants in the downtown IMO. I do not get the full value for what I’m paying and enough is enough they need to find a new source of revenue other than the captive home owner.

Those that live outside the city have never had it so good….

Eagle, I agree with you completely. This council has now been here for 3 months and this is their second increase in that time. They will try to put the blame on the previous council but the fact is there are councillors from the previous one sitting on this one. Earlier this week I received our bill for utilities and it was just short of $350 ($386 if paid after deadline)if paid before deadline. This is paid twice a year for a total of $700 along with the $2000 property tax on a 1200 square foot home for a cool $2700 per year. Now tell me that we own our homes. Something has to change.

what? A hike of my taxes again. And here I was expecting a reduction of 10%. Silly me to expect a politician to live up to an election promise. Another case of say whatever to get elected and do whatever once elected.

I believe that this council will lower busuness tax and increase homeowner taxes. Time will tell.
