Voluntary Settlement of Teachers Dispute Unlikely

Victoria, B.C. – The The assistant deputy minister of industrial relations says it is unlikely the BCTF and the BCPSEA will be able to reach a voluntary settlement of their contract dispute.
Trevor Hughes delivered his report to the provincial government this morning.
The contract dispute has the province’s "net zero" mandate on one side, and the teachers call for a 15% wage increase over three years on the other.
Hughes’ report has now been delivered to both sides in the dispute. Education Minister George Abbott will determine what the next steps will be.

How much did they pay Hughes to state the obvious? It is unbelievable how this government spends our money
I believe they paid him a little over $120,000 last year.
This government, that government, the next government, the last government…they’re all the same. They’re there to line their pockets and the pockets of their friends.
What a surpise! I suggest the teachers should have province wide posting and filling. Full portability of benefits between districts. That is a no cost item and would deal with the problems of young teachers finding jobs. It might save a little money as the HR departments in school districts might shrink as a consequence. I suggest most teachers would take a 0-0 contract if they could bump their way out of the Northern districts.
Its pretty tough to have a voluntary settlement when all the gov’t brings to the table is NO!
Operation Solidarity Lives!!!
You go bobblehead. You and your government should soon be toast. Come on Crispy, call an election now.
Give the 15%! But check out the pay scale first! You may be surprized at what a loaded up teacher makes.
