Friday, March 2, 2012 @ 4:36 PM
Prince George, B.C. – An elderly city man is under treatment at University Hospital after being struck by a car this afternoon.

Prince George RCMP say that around 2:15p.m. they were called to an accident near the corner of Vance Road and Westwood Drive.   Investigating officers reported that an 82-year-old Prince George woman was backing a Pontiac Grand Prix out of a driveway when she hit an 84-year-old man who was walking along Vance Road. The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital suffering unknown injuries. He is undergoing further assessment.

Police say the female driver will be charged under the Motor Vehicle Act with failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Vance Road was blocked to traffic from the 2700 block to the intersection with Westwood as police conducted their investigation.

shall we think about revolking their licenses. they are elderly. plz people we see this on a daily basis

Only if we start revoking licenses also for all those who speed excessively, drink and drive, run red lights and talk on cell phones while driving.

Like she could see over the snowbanks. But…..

I saw the accident happen and helped provide first aid to the victim. It was an unfortunate set of circumstances and timing that caused this to happen (the definition of an accident). I’m fairly sure the lady who struck the victim was focusing on oncoming traffic and was distracted enough by this to not see the gentleman as he probably moved out of her line of sight and into her blind spot (she was trying to back out of a driveway onto Vance Rd). We all get distracted, myself included. I was so rattled after the incident that I started to drive through a school zone without slowing down. Fortunately my friend was with me and warned me and suggested I not drive for awhile. I took her advice. Most of us try to do the best we can, but sometimes things get away from you no matter how diligent you try to be.
