Admin Calls on Council to Review It’s Own Policies

Monday, March 5, 2012 @ 7:50 PM

Prince George, B.C.- Administration has submitted its responses to the 16 recommendations put forth by the Select Committee on Business on how the City of Prince George can improve certain services. (click here for the 16 recommendations)

The Administration response carries a message that seems to be saying the recommendations  are already covered in many of the policies and strategies already in place and it is up to Council to review, and  if necessary, revise  the policies it has already put in place.

Administration made three recommendations to Council:

1.      That Council revisit its economic development strategy and policy (the myPG document that was approved in December of 2010)

2.      That Council revisit its Social Development Strategy and Policy (myPG document approved August 23rd, 2010)

3.      That Council establish an advisory committee on business and/or other advisory committees to provide direct advice to Council, following the Core Services Review project.

City Manager Derek Bates  also suggested that since there is yet be a core review  , that perhaps this material should  move towards that  undertaking.

The  RFP for the core review has been issued and  is expected to be awarded  before the end of this month. Council has agreed to accept recommendations 1 and 2 unanimouslyh, but recommendation number 3 was changed to  put this over to the Core Review Committee and  for  discussion at the Committee of the whole meeting.

Let’s commission a study.

The city manager seems to be saying if Council wants to throw out the sustainability plan (that they just spent over a year and likely hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop) then that is your choice. Thus the need to “revisit”.

Pretty tough to say you care about the environment or social development when you just gased all the people that were actually doing that work.
