Prince George, BC –  It was one week ago today that a massive wall of snow came roaring down a mountain alongside Highway 20, completely closing the route…

The Ministry of Transportation is sharing photos of the snowslide, which shows the enormity of the job facing highways maintenance crews across the province at this time of year.

Last Sunday’s avalanche obviously closed both lanes of Highway 20, approximately three-kilometres west of Bella Coola, along a section of the route known as Boathouse.

Click on the photo at right for a slideshow of photos taken by Ministry of Transportation officials.

The route was re-opened to traffic within approximately 32-hours.

That is a lot of snow. I think that re-opening the road in 32 hours is quite good actually. Can you imagine how many front end loader bucket loads it would take to clear that mess? Even with a 980 or equivalent, I think that there would be quite a few.
