Aboriginal Health Initiative At CNC Monday

Sunday, March 18, 2012 @ 6:07 AM
Prince George, B.C. – A CNC nursing student has organized the first Aboriginal Health Initiative Gathering designed to celebrate better health and understanding between cultures.

The public is invited to attend the gathering, which will involve Lheidli T’enneh and Saik’uz First Nations communities tomorrow, March 19 from 5 – 8 p.m. at CNC’s aboriginal Resource Centre.

“It’s an informal gathering that will address holistic, emotional and spiritual health,” said organizer Melanie Labatch, a CNC second-year nursing student from Saik’uz First Nation. “For nurses, who will work in northern B.C. and with First Nations clients, we need to understand and see the patients for who they really are. That goes a long way in building a strong community.”

The gathering includes a potluck dinner, storytelling by community Elders and CNC nursing students, a Lheidli T’enneh youth drum group, aboriginal art displays, information on Tobacco cessation, diabetes, blood pressure as well as traditional medicine displays.

“This is open to anyone who wants to have a good time at a nice gathering,” said Labatch.

She will be joined by three of her second-year nursing classmates and Registered Nurses from Narcosli will also participate. The event is sponsored by CNC’s Aboriginal Resource Centre and CNC’s Tobacco Cessation program.

I`ll go there,I don’t know you or your family.
The reason for this being an Aboriginal health forum is the fact that we are only in to second and third generation of
first Nations people going from living off the land and sea to eating processed food .
This is not just a local problem though the diseased white man has spread its self all over the world and poisoned everything…

You have got to be fn kidding me!

Reverse racism?? Give it a rest.

Life Expectancy

Medieval Britian 30 years
Early Modern Britian 25-40 years
Early 20th Century 31 years
Current World Average 67.2 years.

Seems like the diseased white mans poisen has more than doubled the lifespan of most people.

Average age of people in BC is Men 72.4 and Women 74

So give me some more of that poisen. Im shooting for 100.

Bannock (a traditional food?) is made with white enriched flour. Better to stop eating that. Along with the other three white poisOns. White rice. Salt and sugar. All those four white poisons will kill ya. If ya don’t get hit by a bus instead.

…diseased white man has spread itself all over this world and poisoned everything….
Hmmm? Don’t blame us fer tobacco and all the deaths and misery is has created. We’re exempt from that “killer weed”. Wow! Now I feel less guilty.

Reverse racism? Anyone who uses this term assumes racism only flows from one source.
Racism does not recognise cultural or ethnic lines.

Anything that encourages people to stop smoking and to eat better is fine in my books. The health care system needs to encourage people to look after themselves.

Got that right faxman.

BCRacer,

lol! FNs wouldn’t care what you do, you fool…in fact, the Cdn Jewish Congress will probably give you a call first, followed by the multi-Asian community…

Harbinger,

lol! bannock flour was not processed as much back then, as it is now, nor was tobacco use as prevalent or white rice used as much, same goes for salt and sugar…the overall health rate for FNs is way worse than any other ethnicity in this country…this intiative is great for FNs, it will only make these FNs nurses more productive in the overall CDN society, you ignorant pig…

Health care initiatives are a good thing no matter who is putting them on and who is able to attend. I’m thankful that they are happening.

Maybe the next one could be on tolerance. Or anger management. Or grace. Or just plain acceptance.
