Bye Bye Winter!

Monday, March 19, 2012 @ 4:00 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Despite the  blast of  winter that left  the streets  slushy and  slippery,  that season is into its last hours.

Spring officially arrives at 10:14 tonight, and Environment Canada isn’t really clear on what we can expect.

When it comes to predictions on temperatures now through to the start of June, the prediction is that there is an 80% probability it will be cooler than normal.

But when it comes to predicting precipitation, well, not so  certain.

The precipitation probability  for the Prince George region looks like this :
30% – 40%   normal
30% – 40%   above normal
30% – 40%   below normal

So it would appear, Environment Canada doesn’t   want to pin that one down.

For the immediate forecast, expect the temperature to hit +5 before the end of the week, and yes, there is sunshine on the way too!

We were +23 yesterday, LOL. Spring has officially hit the nations capital. Apparently it’s actually going to be a bad year for maple syrup because it got too warm too quickly. Still going to Quebec to hit up a sugar shack this weekend though for a feast of pea soup, pancakes, fresh syrup and all of the other French Canadian goodies!

Hope your Spring gets there and the ice is off the lakes soon. The trout await :)

Ahh, pea soup…. Could you send some to P.G. NMG.

I’m going to miss the nice smooth roads!

NMG, the Ottawa equivalent of taxinapothole. Always coming by to let us know how rosy it is in their neck of the woods. ;-)

Ottawa potholes ….. :-)

They have 15!!!! crews doing potholes. DO we still have the increased number we are getting taxed for? I think it was from 2 to 3?

I think pothole crews are camera shy around here. May have to deal with the Mayor to get access. :-)

Here is Calgary from last year.

and from this year http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/story/2012/01/31/calgary-report-pothole-warm-weather.html

So, as with snow and snow removal, Ottawa, Calgary and most other cities in Canada get potholes and fix them in a relatively timely fashion.

In PG we have excuses ….. no money, other priorities, cannot be improved, …… so just bear the cross because we live in a northern city. And, other than Lotusland residents, who in Canada does not live in a “northern” city? That is no excuse.

Hey, JohnnyBelt, when people complain on here there are several posters who tell them to leave then.

These two, as well as a few others, took that advice (not really because the suggestion was made here … LOL) and, with modern communication technology can be virtually anywhere in the world, including in their home town.

Hey gus, I didn’t mean for things to turn serious, just keeping it light, hence the ;-)

No offence taken JohnnyBelt :)

gus it’s funny you mention potholes. Heard on the news here earlier today that crews have filled over 33,000 of them and they are expected to continue filling. Now the funny thing I’ve noticed is that a pothole here would be more like a divot in PG, LOL. Seriously, in almost a year of living here I think I may have hit 2 potholes that made me say “oops” and NONE that have made me say “%$#@*%”.

They get on them REALLY quickly and get to them before they can get really bad. I also think the much better road clearing helps because even in the dead of winter (unless we’re in the middle of a storm), the roads are clear so the crews can get at them to make repairs of needed. But yeah, when I hear of people complain about roads here I just laugh. Of course, my taxes are also higher so perhaps that has something to do with the ability of the city to actually maintain the roads properly. Hmmm . . .

We’re scheduled for our first humidex warning of the year on Wednesday, when it will feel like +30. Welcome to March? Wacko is all I can say, LOL.
