Simply amazing. Here is a photo op without a politician in sight. They must all be away on holidays.
Oops wrong keys. Sorry
I do hope you are being funny with that statement as almost all of city council is in the shot.
I recognized at least 6 from City Hall. What part did they play in the Keg’s re-opening?
I recognize a familiar face that has made a huge difference in the world today for the DISABLED, Rick Hansen!! Much more important than the City Council of Prince George!
Monday was photo op day in Prince George. at the Nordic Ski Centre, Cancer Clinic, Keg and UWay announcement. it doesn’t matter if you had anything to do with it or not. Bell, Bond, Green, Councillors, everyone show up. Just make sure you get your face in it. Regarding the downtown stuff. People have been screaming about ‘revitalization’ for decades, to the point where everyone became sick of it. All of a sudden buildings are knocked down, the city purchases land like Donald Trump of the North, and things start sprouting. Watch the sales of properties/leases closely. Interesting times between now and 2015. Also watch for the counter posts on sites such as this. There’s a movement afoot.
Hey, all of Council was there. Not only a photo op, but free food to boot. ;-)
Smart move by the restaurant to take a couple of years off during the downturn in the economy in order to do a make-over.
Mr. Mikes is opening shortly. :-)
Wonder if the rumour about Swiss Chalet moving into Tony Roma’s has any truth to it.
Did anyone go to the ribbon cutting at the official opening of the BG Urban Grill at YXS?
I don’t have a problem with the politicos getting a picture or getting free food, but I do have a problem with the Keg getting so much advertising with such a small contribution.
I pray we don’t get a Swiss Chalet. We need good restaurants, not crappy chain ones. And yes that includes the Keg.
So why did the Keg get all this so called high level attention? Whats the big deal? Please tell me what I am missing?
Was up at YXS dropping someone off on Friday, and the BG Urban Grill looks pretty nice. didn’t get the chance to eat there as I had to get a loan to pay for parking.
The Keg received nothing but hassle and rod blocks from the city inspections during their renovations thanks to the old “Dan” regime. The reno started off at 1.3 million and ended up at 3 Million; I was told by a pretty reliable source(one of the contractors).
So who is the architect who thought it could be done for $1.3 million? I never saw an architect’s name up there, just a general contractor’s name.
When you do as major a renovation as they did with the building, one needs to do an extensive code check to start with in order to get a relatively good idea of what all needs to be done to meet the PROVINCIAL Building Code. One can’t blame the City, let alone the Mayor, for ensuring the building code that is the law of the province, and Canada for that matter, is adhered to.
They may have had problems similar to the ones that the Sheraton had when they used home builders to do the commercial project for them.
Once one finds something has to be done to comply with a code and a new expense is incurred, one may just say that if that needs to get done, then we might as well also do this other thing.
Do we really want to go to the airport for dinner, I mean really, might as well drive to the Hixon take out for god’s sake.

That article from over a year ago seems to imply that the main cause was the purchasing of City property and the requirement to move services which were in the City owned property they wanted to purchase. I do not know of any other location in PG where part of a 66 foot public right of way has been purchased by an adjacent land owner. That is hardly anything that would move the cost of construction to increase by close to $2million.
Anyway, despite all that, the United Way got some more money donated. The good news part of the story. :-)
I hope this means they are going to make them selves available for all pub and bar grand openings now, I can think of a nice club who`s grand opening they did not attend…do they get an invite for that sort of thing ???
Well at 40.00 a steak they should of gave 87,000.
