Nearly Half a Million for Two Crime Prevention Programs

Prince George,B.C. – Carrier Sekani Family Services will receive a total of $460,000 in Civil Forfeiture Grants for two separate programs. 
 
$250 thousand will be used in a Prevention and Awareness Program on the Highway of Tears.   The project will work towards raising awareness and addressing  community safety to prevent violence against women along Highway 16 between Prince George and Prince Rupert. This will include 7 community workshops to train aboriginal leaders, educators, community agencies, RCMP and victim services on the use of a violence prevention toolkit. There will also be a media awareness campaign to educate the public about violence against women and to promote violence prevention. 
 
The second program is aimed at preventing  gang activity and will see the Carrier Sekani Family Services bring its Walk Tall  program to the Burns Lake area.   This program sees First Nations working with the RCMP , Ministry of Children and Family Development and School District 91 in delivering the program which offers recreational and cultural activities in addition to a mentorship program. The Walk Tall Burns Lake project received $210 thousand dollars.
