Prince George, B.C. – It could be almost as electrifying inside the Mackenzie Recreation Centre as when the community was vying for the title of Hockeyville one year ago…
Later this afternoon, the Vancouver Canucks Alumni will take to the ice to face off against Mackenzie RCMP officers, firefighters and players from the local team, ‘Chicks with Sticks’.
The event is meant to recognize the community’s second place finish in last year’s competition and is sponsored by Canfor. Company CEO, Don Kayne, says, "It is a chance to celebrate both Mackenzie’s achievements in the Hockeyville competition and the spirit of this great community."
"The Canucks Alumni always look forward to opportunities to support and visit communities throughout the province," says former player Dave Babych. "This will be another great chance for the community of Mackenzie to come together and use hockey as the bond."
Mackenzie Mayor Stephanie Killam says, "This is another exciting event for the ‘town with the big heart’ and we want to sincerely thank all those involved who have made it possible for the Alumni to come."
Killam adds, "Wayne Gretzky once said, ‘You miss 100% of the shots you never take.’ We took a shot at Kraft Hockeyville and came in second and are now privileged to have a chance to see great players play hockey right here in Mackenzie."
The puck drops at 4pm with proceeds from ticket sales going to Mackenzie Counselling. Everyone is welcome to attend a free meet-and-greet with the Alumni afterwards at the curling rink at 6:30pm. The Canucks vs Colorado will be on the big screen.
