Dust Advisory for P.G.
Tuesday, March 27, 2012 @ 1:29 PM
Prince George, B.C.- The Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Northern Health Authority has issued a Dust Advisory for Prince George because of high concentrations of dust that are expected to persist until late Wednesday.
Current PM10 concentrations are 53 µg/m3 Plaza 400 downtown, 37 µg/m3 at College Heights, and 71µg/m3 at BCR at 11am today. This episode is expected to continue until there is a change in weather patterns.
The current dusty conditions are the result of vehicles kicking up dust from the sand and gravel that had been spread on the roads for traction over the winter.
Light winds and dry conditions overnight as well as clear skies contributed to dust accumulating in the air shed.
Air quality is expected to be better at higher elevations. Levels should improve somewhat this afternoon but increase again this evening. Levels are expected to decrease late Wednesday as clouds and precipitation are forecast to move into the region.

Are the street sweepers out yet?
Instead of the city spending $70,000.00 to TALK about the air, how about spending the the money actually DOING something about air quality and use that money to fund an early round of sweeping on the main arterial roads around town.
PG Air roundtable is a waste. The turnout to their forum’s are so poor tonight’s meeting could be held in a phone booth if they still existed.
NO WAY! NOT DUST!!!
How the heck are we supposed to see the potholes now???
Dust also caused by the morons playing on the in-town sandhills on their quads and motorbikes. Saw two of them yesterday on the sandhills by YRB and the weight scales.
And here I had hung our oriental rugs on the fence and was beating the dust out of them thinking it was such a perfect sping day for that.

Sping has spung out all over …. ;-)
Someone must have asked you for your name and a dress and you took them literally;-P
yes the street are being swept. ospika today for sure.
Sping has spung and the GAS HAS RISEN
Streets should be cleaned in time to start laying it down again.
Bornandbred – thousands of cars, trucks and busses driving around on sand covered streets. Sweepers running. Wind. You think a couple of ATVs is the problem? That’s akin to ignoring the pulpmills and pellet plant and refineries and going after gramma for putting a stick of kindling on to warm her house during an air quality advisory…oh wait, that is what we do isn’t it?

Morons? Really? Why would you call them morons?
Do we shoot them? That would probably work to keep the dust down hey?
A tandem axle tanker truck with a tank full of Endust and a jail full of convicts being made to use their Swifters to get rid of all this dust once and for all.
things woiuld improve if they used some water when sweeping tbge streets. I guess water is valuable.
I called them morons because you could actually see the clouds and clouds of dust they were putting into the air. Most non-moronic people know that at this time of air we should all be trying to reduce what we put into the air shed.
When you sweep the streets does it fill in the pot holes? Another money saving measure by gang green.
I am thankful that the street sweepers are out already. However, it does appear that there is something left on the street that looks like it is designed to keep the dust to a minimum. I guess I should find out what it is.
Ok bornandbred – so you walk to work? Or do you make one small dust cloud that is miles and miles long like the other thousands of motorists each day?
interceptor, you don’t seem to get it…what I am saying is that those people shouldn’t be ripping around sandhills in City limits at this time of year. While most of us have to drive to work (because the bus stops and times don’t work for us), we don’t have to play with our expensive toys.
I’m guessing you like your expensive toys and get quite defensive when someone mentions same.

Pothole Patching Machine reported in Letters to Editor in citizen today by Doug Woollam.
CEO: This city would never entertain a good idea like that! Put four or five guys out of work and actually create some efficiency? Man, you’ve got to be kidding!
The street sweepers pick up the small gravel and some sand but they leave behind the really fine particles. This dries and leaves a film of very fine ‘mud’ on the streets. Cars come along and blow it up into the air. If they used a flusher truck behind the sweeoers and I mean a good flusher truck, they could get rid of all of this but they won’t do that either. They just keep running the sweepers up and down the same streets night after night and ignore most of the others.
