I’m going to plant flowers in the potholes on our street
Lol, it would beautify the city! And the bonus part would be we could see the sneaky pot holes! Great idea! Haha
The City first of all needs to clean up its own act by enhancing our public properties. And then all they need to do is get some bylaws enforcement to fix the rest. Handing out a buck here and there will not fix up the entire mess that we have to look at.
Other cities require that boulevards be landscaped and not used for public parking.Forget the potholes they are part of our lifestyle.
Cheers
.
People who live in a poor thirld world country put up with potholes and dirt roads because they don’t earn enough money to pay annual big property taxes like we do! They HAVE to accept the conditions that reflect the general poverty!
Here in B.C. and P.G. we are ENTITLED to have HIGH expectations because we are paying HIGH taxes!
Taxation entitles us to representation! Of course if one finds it acceptable that many (far too many!) roads look like cratered moonscapes – so be it for that person.
Whose fault is it that those in power have no sense of priorities?
Hope that one has good eyes, strong arms, indestructible rims and tires, not to mention shocks and suspension bushings!
Happy Third World motoring in PG, a city which is successfully displaying a third world poverty imagine!
Forgetting the potholes is a defeatist attitude!
Let’s hang some more banners and flower pots!
Grant money will come from the money saved by laying off City employees that took care of our parks and gardens.
Brownshoe: Ha, ha, that is the first thing I thought of too!
To the City, can you say “priorities”?
Fill the porholes, cut the grass, get rid of the weeds, who needs grants.
Beautification, if I fix up my house and yard my taxes go up so what is the point.
You said it Pr. Geo.
We should expect that our roads are going to be fixed! We pay enough gas tax, carbon tax, tax on tax! WE WANT OUR ROADS FIXED!
Where the hell is all that money going?
We NEVER had all this TAX 10yrs ago and we managed to have our roads fixed. With that much money going into this Liberal Government we should be driving on the very least re paved roads! That is not asking for much.
The city is inept. Highway 16 from 97 to Ferry is the busiest road North of Kelowna and yet we still have a half dismantled ball park with old fence posts and chicken wire laying around everywhere nearly a decade after they closed down the ball park. The City of PG priorities have never been beautification. Actions speak louder than grants.
Why not spend a day and clear the lot and plant some grass that can be mowed. Ditto for the empty lot along the highway at Walmart… what an eye sore.
Nice thought about beautification grants ….
BUT, I have to agree with the others on here. Total misplaced dollars. Use them to fix what is ailing this community when it comes to taking care of the public properties and facilities.
Cultural Heritage Preservation … that is a joke!! … the city’s version of that at the moment is knock down the oldest building one can find and put up a sign.
My neighbourhood is really beautiful. Kenworths, Freightliners and Peterbuilt logging trucks parked around every corner.
That is a good one brownshoe…LOL – maybe we all have the inside track to invest in some potting soil company:)
Hammy, maintaining the city streets is the responsibility of the City, the Municipality!
Can’t blame the rough pitiful shape of the city streets on the Liberal Provincial Government any more than it could not be blamed on the NDP Provincial Government.
The Province looks after highways, like #16 and #97.
One can, however, be justified in laying a lot of blame on the Federal Government which has NEVER returned to the provinces what the provinces sent to Ottawa in federal fuel taxes so that infrastructure maintenance can be kept up. Latest I read is that Ottawa collects about a billion a year of those fuel taxes but returns only a few ten millions!
It’s way more important to spent a few billions annually an the lost Afghanistan disaster and on the purchase of 65 attack fighter plans for an underestimated 35 billion!
Not to mention the billion or more that has been sunk already into attempting a re-fit of three totally useless British submarine junk duds!
Just tow them out to sea and use them for missile testing, please!
I heryou Prince George and its a point I have been trying to make on another post. Its these airy fairy projects that are deniging good service from our government be it municipal, provincial or fedral.
Cheers
I must say that I am fast becoming a nay sayer. I don’t think it’s because I have a bad attitude. So maybe it’s because we have a bunch of numb sculls in all three of our governments. It used to be a used car salesmans place in life to be a numb scull, but the vehicles have been getting better. Our roads, infastructure, heighways, and taxes are all going out of whack. It seems that we have less and less to say or do about these annomalays. I haved said that we as tax paying citizens need to get together and vote as a block ands cause change.
Is this a good ole fashioned butt kissin???and if it is…who`s butts gettin kissed???and if its mine could you pucker up again and try harder please????my butt`s not as sensitive as it use to be…
Thank you
