Emergency Room At Stuart Lake Hospital Has Limited Openings

Wednesday, April 11, 2012 @ 9:32 AM
Ft. St. James, – There  will be some relief for residents in the Fort St. James area.

The emergency room at the Stuart Lake Hospital  will be open for all of nine days this month as Northern Health had been able to arrange  expanded locum coverage.

The dates the emergency room will be open are as follows:
  • April 13-16
  • April 19
  • April 21-22
  • April 24-25
But, with the exception of the dates noted, the emergency room will be closed as Northern Health has not yet been able to arrange to have a physician on hand.

The Stuart Lake Hospital emergency room is the only department affected by these closures. The rest of the hospital will remain open and patients will not be impacted. Lab and X-Ray at Stuart Lake Hospital are still operating as normal.  Patients can continue to use these services.

If necessary, acute care patients will be discharged or transferred to another facility based on their care needs. Northern Health is also working with the BC Ambulance Service to manage emergencies during these periods.

Individuals who require emergency attention can call 9-1-1 for transport to the next open emergency department in Vanderhoof or Prince George, or can seek private transportation.

Pathetic!
Just make sure you only get hurt on the days it is open?
Why doesn’t Northern Health just tell the truth?
They want everyone in Fort St.James to go to Vanderhoof if they are hurt or sick!
Where is that useless excuse for an MLA, John Rustad?
Did Christy Clark not give him permission to speak?

What N.H. need to do is find a couple of G.P. doctors who would enjoy living in Fort St. James. The area is really quite scenic, outdoor recreation opportunities abound, a beautiful lake, it’s not a bad place.
It is a disgrace upon N.H. and the Provincial government that there is only a part time emergency department at Stuart Lake Hospital, given the number of people living and working there. Vanderhoof is 40 miles away, critical time will be lost in treating someone one day, and the lack of services may well result in a lawsuit against N.H.
metalman.

Well said MM…they are trying to find doctors, but so far no luck and unfortunately, I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
I also think Northern Health would like to see Stuart Lake hospital used as nothing more than a nurses post!
While we do need doctors,I think the BIG problem is Northern Health itself!
Time to rally the troops FSJ!
