Prince George, B.C. – City firefighters stationed at Kelly Road and Austin Road were called into action this afternoon.
Shortly after 1pm fire crews were dispatched to the apartment building on West Austin directly across from the Hart mall. Fire had broken out in the ceiling fan area in the 3rd floor laundry room. There was plenty of smoke in the building, but the property manager managed to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher.
All of the building’s residents were evacuated safely and no one was hurt. There is no estimate of damage as yet. Firefighters remain on scene to ensure there is no further fire outbreak.

Excellent location for an apartment building. All the amenities at their doorstep… good safe neighborhood… surprised we don’t have more in the area.
Another small ceiling mounted exhaust fan fire, it is a wonder there are not more of them. The fan wheels and housings get loaded with lint and dust, one day the motor gets old and tired, begins to heat up, et voila! Prevention is the best cure against a potential fire. The fan should be disassembled and cleaned once a year, minimum, the exhaust duct too, if necessary.
