Officers  prepare to  put up tarps to block access to site where human remains were discovered.

Prince George, BC – Prince George RCMP are confirming that human remains have been discovered in an area , on the west side of Foothills Boulevard.

Media Relations Officer, Corporal Craig Douglass, says the remains were discovered by a member of the public.  Members of a local family looking for a lost pet had been searching in the area yesterday and again this morning, when one of the searchers came across the remains.  Police were called and arrived at the scene at about 1:30pm this afternoon.  Officers have since cordoned off a large section of the greenspace near 5th Avenue – from the boulevard to halfway up the hill.

Douglass says Prince George RCMP remain in charge of the investigation, it has not been transferred to North District at this point in time.  Police do not anticipate releasing any further information today, but hope to be able to provide further details tomorrow.

The BC Coroner’s Service has been called in to assist with the investigation, as well.

It was just two weeks ago that RCMP issued a plea to the public to keep a watchful eye when venturing into the outdoors in hopes of getting a break in the ongoing investigation into the murder of 23-year-old Natasha Lynn Montgomery.

Cody Legebokoff has been charged in connection with her death and the murder of three other women, but Montgomery’s body has not yet been found.  She was last seen near the downtown core late in the summer of 2010. (click here for previous story)
