Day of Mourning Tomorrow

Prince George, B.C. – Tomorrow is the National Day of Mourning,  a time when workers, families, employers, and others come together to remember those who have lost their lives to work-related incidents or occupational diseases.   This year’s remembrance is especially poignant in light of Monday’s tragic events at Lakeland Mills.
 
Every year, WorkSafeBC, the B.C. Federation of Labour, and the Business Council of British Columbia co-host a public ceremony to honour the occasion.
 
Here in Prince George , there will be a ceremony at the  workers memorial sculpture where Patricia Boulevard and  Queensway intersect.  That ceremony is scheduled to get underway at noon.
 
WorkSafe BC says last year, 142 British Columbian workers died due to workplace injury or illness. Eighteen of those deaths occurred in the region from the Cariboo north to the Yukon border:
