Prince George, B.C.- The Pacific Trails Pipeline proposal for a gas compression site east of Summit Lake is one step closer to reality.

The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has given third reading to a revision of the Crooked River-Parsnip Official Community Plan that would   rezone the subject property to allow for the development of a natural gas line compressor station including the uses of offices, operations building and shop facilities.

The project is said to be worth $90 million in capital costs and would create 60 full time jobs during construction. Once built, the compressor station would require just three to 4 full time operators.

The development would see the construction of 3 compressor units, and construction of 5 to 10 smaller ancillary building.

Construction could start as early as late next year, with completion in early 2015.

Even with the Regional District of Fraser Fort George’s approval, the project must still clear a couple of other hurdles .

The property in question is on Crown Land, and must be sent to the Ministry of Community, Sport and
Cultural Development for their approval. The proposal must also be approved by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure because it is located close to the Hart Highway and could have a traffic impact.

Both those approvals must be in place before the Regional District can officially adopt the changes.

Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development?
Uh, I think not unless they want a grant for teepees or something. The Ministry of Forests is where you would go…
