Tractor Trailer Spills Load On Simon Fraser Bridge

Friday, April 20, 2012 @ 6:05 AM
Prince George, BC. – Clean up continues after a tractor trailer spilled its load on the southbound lane of the Simon Fraser Bridge at 3am today.
The south bound lane was blocked for some time overnight as crews worked to clean up the area.

Investigators believe that the driver of the tractor trailer failed to negotiate the sharp turn in the south bound on-ramp, on the north side of the bridge. The trailer rolled onto it’s side, spilling much of it’s load onto one lane of Highway 97 South.

The driver was found to have an expired Driver’s License and a violation ticket was issued.
The driver of the truck was not injured.

Police are advising motorists avoid the southbound  SImon Fraser Bridge if at all possoble.

If you do have to come through from the North, the RIGHT lane is the one that is open. I have no idea why they have signs in front of the mall that tell everyone to merge into the left lane. Everyone is merging left before the lights and then after the lights you have to merge into the right lane…
ps – The tow trucks are there now and they will have to close southbound completely while they stand the truck back up
Happy Friday!

“The driver was found to have an expired Driver’s License…”

Yep, a person making a living driving is dumb enough NOT to keep up the only thing that enables him/her to carry out the job!

For how long has it been expired? A few years?

ICBC (us) should refuse to pay for any damages!

C’mon, people get caught off guard all the time, to renew their driver’s license, or insurance. Yes, he was going too fast.
And, hardly any of his load was spilled, it was mostly contained by the concrete median. They would have to shovel it off though, to right the truck.

What bothers me is the lack of respect for driving on public roads. Thankfully no one was hurt. He could have seriously injured or killed himself or someone else. I think it is rather scary that we have drivers out there like this.

I sure hope the company he drives for makes note of whether this incident was an anomaly or not. If he is a good driver with a clear record and just made the mistake of not renewing his licence on time, then he should retain his job. If the conditions are otherwise, then he shouldn’t be allowed to drive again for anyone.

People who forget to renew their driver licence probably conveniently forget because they can’t afford to pay their penalty point premiums or other fines they know are attached to renewal.
Other people who just plain forget, well, what can anyone say about that? I know, they lack responsibility in their lives, or they shouldn’t be behind the wheel in the first place….LOL

Crazy that he could drive with an expired license. That would never happen at bigger outfits like Excel or Lomak where they are tied into ICBC and get regular updates of any changes. I remember a few years back when Chambers was in town hauling out of Quesnel and Dunkly and we had the big crack down on trucks and they found a number of their drivers without their license as well… a few weeks later Canfor canceled all their contracts. One hopes it was a matter of a lapse of sorts….

That said it looked to me like he was spilled over to far back to be from the on ramp… maybe swerved to avoid another vehicle coming off the on ramp? Where would he be coming from to be hauling from the on ramp anyways? Company involved does not haul out of Lakeland or anything out East… most sawdust they haul comes from Polar or Isle Pierre possibly, and both are to Canfor….

eagleone ….is that not a lomak truck?
