City In Court on Haldi Rd School Rezone Case At Week’s End
Monday, April 23, 2012 @ 4:31 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George is in court this Thursday and Friday, defending the rezoning of the former Haldi Road School. The rezoning cleared the way for the former school to be developed into a residential Recovery Centre for Women.
The case against the city has been filed in the name of one resident. It calls on the Court to rule the rezoning invalid based on three arguments:
1. the rezoning is inconsistent with the Official Community Plan for Prince George,
2. regulates users and not the use of the land and that
3. the City cannot amend the official Community Plan without complying with the procedures required under the Local Government Act.
Council for the City of Prince George approved the rezoning after the proponent put up a cash security for some off site works, and a covenant was registered against the property. The covenant prevents the proponents from using the on site well for the Recovery Centre’s water supply, instead, the Centre will have water trucked in, and will store it in one of the cisterns on site. Water use was a key issue with the area residents who say the planned centre would put unnecessary pressure on wells in the area.
The B.C. Supreme Court hearing of the matter had been scheduled for today and Tuesday but has now been re-booked to Thursday, April 26th and Friday, April 27th.

Trucking in water? There is not enough water in that area? That, all by itself, should have been enough reason NOT to select that site.
How much will it cost every year to truck in the water and what about the additional air pollution and carbon emissions from all the diesel fuel used to haul the water?
Will the Nissan Leaf electric car compensate for that? I doubt it!
Went on the Supreme Court website:
https://eservice.ag.gov.bc.ca/cso/courtLists.do?listSelection=Prince_George_Law_Courts.pdf&courtType=SCCL
and it looks like it is not in court today. It was mentioned in a previous post that it was the “week” of April 23/12. Would this not mean it will be sometime this week?
Just asking…
Good work O250 for updated the artlicle as fast as you did. Job well done. :)
I was just asking about this a few hours ago. Thanks.
The Supreme Court must have a very large “in basket”.
The city flip flops with the OCP. The same councillors who voted in favor of the rezoning of Haldi Rd, are the same ones who denied Coyote NightClub because “It doesn’t fit the OCP” “It isn’t a good fit for the neighbourhood” “It doesn’t go with the community’s strategic plan.” So I ask the city, WHAT or is it WHO determines when the OCP is ignored?
