Chilliwack- The Prince George Capabilities Knights baseball team (Prince George Youth Baseball Assn) won once in four outings during an exhibition weekend in Chilliwack, the first game action of the season for the city all-star team.

The Knights (ages 11-12) are in their tryout stage, preparing to set the 12-player roster for tournament and provincial play this summer. 14 players made the trip to Chilliwack — Mike Schwab, Michael Taylor, Joseph Jen Venne, Zach Swanson, Cole Schwing, Cole Beacom, Seth Lapre, Ryan Bachand, Ryan Hampe, Quinten Astorino, Scott Walters, Dustin Aldana, Dawson McKinnon and Jeremy Gervais.

The Knights started Saturday by losing 15-3 to the Cloverdale Colts, the top rated team in the Fraser Valley. Cole Beacom took the loss. Later Saturday, the Knights lost 8-4 to the Chilliwack Cougars, with Joseph Jen Venne taking the loss on the mound.

On Sunday morning, Cole Schwing was the winning pitcher in a 17-5 victory. In the final game, also against the Chilliwack team that will host provincials at Fairfield Park Aug 2-6, the Knights lost a late lead and fell 10-8, with Ryan Hampe taking the loss.

"It was a great weekend, playing in April and chipping off the rust from winter," said Knights pitching coach Connor Flynn.

"The teams we played have been outside for months and are already into their season. Our players were excited and everyone got a lot of playing time. The defence was pretty good, even strong at times, the pitchers sometimes had trouble throwing strikes, which was expected for being the first time outdoors, and our bats were rusty, but we got better as the weekend went on. This is a great group, very eager and committed."
