Mayor And Council Encouraging Residents To Donate Blood
Prince George, BC – Prince George Mayor Shari Green and City Councillors will be rolling up their sleeves to donate blood later this afternoon, and they’re hoping other city residents will show their support for the victims of the Lakeland Mills’ explosion in similar fashion.
Canadian Blood Services Partnership Specialist, Tammie Watson, says burn victims often require blood products while recovering in hospital. She says the most typical product they received is a plasma protein product called albumin, but severe cases can sometimes also require red blood cell transfusions.
Watson says while it’s unkown how many transfusions have been given to the victims of Monday evening’s explosion, the mayor and council members will be donating blood at the local clinic on Westwood Drive at 5:15pm in honour of the injured mill workers and their families, and in support of the many patients who need blood products everyday.
Watson is encouraging others to book an appointment to donate in the days and weeks aheady by callig 1-888-236-6283 or by visiting www.blood.ca
