Thursday, May 3, 2012 @ 10:57 AM
The Prince George Cougars have selected forward Aaron Boyd (Winnipeg, MB) in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

Boyd (6’0”, 153 pounds) played for the Winnipeg Hawks (Bantam AAA, Division 1) last season, and scored 16 goals, and 35 points in 30 games.

Boyd is the third forward selected by the Prince George Cougars in the first two rounds of the Bantam Draft. Boyd is also the first Manitoba prospect selected by the Cougars in 2012.

The  Cougars also selected forward Jansen Harkins (North Vancouver, B.C.) with the second overall pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

Harkins stands 5’11”, and 160 pounds and played with the North Shore Winterclub Winterhawks this past season. Harkins tallied 68 goals, and 122 points this season for the Winterhawks.
Harkins’ has some strong hockey bloodlines. His father Todd Harkins played 10 seasons of professional hockey, including some time with both the Calgary Flames and the Hartford Whalers.

Brad Morrison (Kelowna, B.C.) was the seventh overall selection in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
In order to get Morrison, the Cougars traded up in the draft, moving from 11th to seventh in a trade with the Everett Silvertips.

word out of edmonton is the cougars are on the move

Wouldn’t surprise me if that were true.

Brandi Brodsky’s quote from April 5, 2011…

“We’ve been losing money the last few years, large amounts, and we just can’t continue to have that happen,”

…it’s now a year later and another dismal season. I’d hate for PG to lose a WHL team because you won’t likely get one back…. but if a business continues to bleed cash, no matter who’s fault it is… something has to give.

They’ve been rumoured to move for the last 5 years at least. They’re just that… rumours.

Where would the Cougars move and who would support a team with such a dismal record over the last 20 or so years?

Won’t likely get one back?

The Cougars left Victoria and have been replaced.

And Victoria getting a WHL team back took a whole what… 18 years? Hey, as long as everybody is willing to wait the better part of two decades, I guess it’s possible.

Who cares if it was 18 years, they got one.

I don’t think the Cougars have to many options. Here is a guess:
1)Nanaimo, if they build a rink
2)Penticton, they have the building but I don’t think the Vees or the hockey academy would welcome another club in their building
3)Winnipeg, not sure why it’s been decades without major junior there
4)Boise Idaho, if I was a Brodsky I would seriously pursue this location.
