Emergency Room Staffing Woes Continue in Ft St James
Thursday, May 3, 2012 @ 11:28 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The Northern Health Authority says expanded locum coverage will allow the Fort St. James Emergency Room to be open for eight days during the month of May.
The dates are:
May 4-6
May 12-13
May 19-21
Due to challenges securing further locum coverage, the emergency room coverage will experience temporary closures for the dates not listed above.
The Stuart Lake Hospital emergency room is the only department affected by these closures. The rest of the hospital will remain open. Lab and X-Ray at Stuart Lake Hospital are still operating as normal.
If necessary, acute care patients will be discharged or transferred to another facilitybased on their care needs.
Northern Health is also working with the BC Ambulance Service to manage emergencies during these periods.
Individuals who require emergency attention can call 9-1-1 for transport to the next openemergency department in Vanderhoof or Prince George, or can seek privatetransportation. However, once discharged from the emergency department, patients will be required to find their own transport back to their home community.
The Fort St. James Medical Clinic remains open. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Northern Health continues to actively recruit both permanent and locum physicians to the community, and has been meeting and working with community representatives and the physicians on a short- and long-term solution.

In the 2009 election, John Rustad told the people of Fort St James in a town haul candidate forum, that his number one issue was a new hospital for Fort St James.
Nobody has seen or heard from John Rustad since!!!
Has anyone seen John Rustad, perhaps the RCMP could get one of those age enhancement pictures of what John Rustad would look like today in 2012.
Who is John Rustad?
John who???
Such is the life of a low profile back-bencher. Consider it a preview of the future NDP MLA’s in the area if they get elected.
No JohnnyBelt, we have had back-benchers before in this riding.
That is the life of a John Rustad MLA, there are no excuses!
You think Sherri Ogasawara will be an improvement? Good luck with that.
The libs are spending taxdollars like the taxpayers have an endless supply for them to steal from our pockets. New hospitals all over the province etc, but they can’t ensure FSJ has a fully functioning E room?
You liberals are sick people!
Why is it the government’s fault that nobody wants to work in FSJ? I doubt the NDP would be able to solve that one.
Put it this way then JohnnyBelt, whoever Sheri Ogasawara is, cannot possibly be worse.
That’s what you think. I heard her on Meisner’s show a couple days ago. Scary stuff.
btw, I’m still waiting for the NDP supporters on this site to tell me why they think the NDP is the solution. “They’re not the Liberals” or “They couldn’t be any worse” doesn’t count.
Why are the Liberals the solution?
Because they handout taxpayers money to business. Thats why.
Why don’t you tell us why the Liberals are the solution, JohnnyBelt? Or better yet tell us how they are doing such a good job in solving these problems?
As I see it they can’t be the solution as “solution” is not in a BC Liberal platform on pretty much anything they have touched.
In fact why are we even looking for a party with solutions if you, JohnnyBelt are convinced we have a party is providing them.
Clearly if the problems were met with solutions from the BC Liberals we wouldn’t be having this discusion.
It seems that people are desperate to get rid of the Liberals. We know all about their faults, I was hoping someone could answer reasonably why anyone should vote NDP. In all likelyhood they will be forming the next government, would you not agree?
It seems that all anyone can come up with is “It can’t be any worse”. Pretty weak and pathetic if you ask me.
What do you need JohnnyBelt, are you willing to give these guys in power another mandate?
Pathetic or not I am not willing to give them another mandate. we all know what the NDP did last time, and it wasn’t great. But you know what JohnnyBelt, in hindsight it was better than the current government. So therefore even if the NDP do as lousy a job as they did last time they held power, I will be happier than I am now with the current idiots.
Happier and unemployed – that’s your call. I feel better about working and complaining about taxes as a passtime…
You’d only be unemployed if your a liberal hack, doing some silly job like chair of the northern trust!
Again guys, thanks for proving my point.
Hey wait a minuite Johnny I was wondedring what do you say about net zero on contracts when the Lieb’s give themselves huge wage increases and hand out to their friends more money? I gota tell you and any other foot kissing lieberal out there that I vote NDP and I have voted NDP in all but one electoin that was the last federal election… but don’t tell anyone. We all know what a failure that was, and we will be paying for it until the NDP get in federaly and hopefully it won’t be too late.

Taxed: “What do you need JohnnyBelt, are you willing to give these guys in power another mandate?”
It doesn’t matter what I think. The next election is the NDP’s to lose.
acrider: “JohnnyBeltBell”
Hilarious. I guess when you’ve got nothing to add to the conversation, you get posts like this.
Of course it doesn’t matter what you think JohnnyBelt, cause you don’t.

Taxed Out, you’re embarrassing yourself again. Better stop while you’re behind.
