Gas in Kelowna 125.9 hmmmm
The PGX is changing it’s name…we’ve changed the names of so many things over the last few years it makes me wonder what is going on? EM&K is now Salmon FSR? Bridges have had names changed etc….maybe it’s time for Prince George to get with the times and change it’s name [and it’s mascot]…time to leave the evils of the past behind us and create anew??
Maybe we could have a contest to come up with a creative new name that would fairly describe our fine city?? ;-)
I heard that the ice is off of Summit Lake. Is that true?
Council giving themselves a raise and yet they do nothing to deserve it.
What better way to duck a bad reputation than to change your name and appearance??
Instead of:
“Prince George, White Spruce Capital”
How about:
“Boomtown, jobs innovation cheap homes and creative center of BC”
I know it sounds a little Liberal, but it just a way to open the discussion!
I would like to ask for help in regards to the illegal shooting of a sow black bear near Hixon on the 9th of this month. The mother was shot and left to rot in a ditch while her three cubs were left to die alongside her body. They were even seen trying to nurse from her. If anyone has any knowledge of this please do the right thing. Thank you
Just out of curiousness, does anyone know what is being built across from the Range Rd. Mohawk station?
Honda North is moving to a building on Wood Wheatons property
Littlebuds I hope they catch this SOB. THere was a place around Kamloops that might take them in, The Consevation Office might know about this. thats if you could catch them, a net would work.
Speaking of construction, what is happening at the BC Hydro site at 18th and the Bypass?
Is this province slowly moving to private health care for the elderly? I believe so. I better bump up my RRSP payments cause i don’t think it will be cheap.
If Honda North is moving out of the downtown core the city better get all over buying up this coveted piece of property in the core.
Has anyone told city hall and gang green about this opportunity?
acrider54 you are correct I went to Kelowna last weekend and the price of gas changed in Clinton 124.9 some changes along the way 125.9 126.9 reached Kelowna it was 129.9. Kamloops was at 116.9. I quess we can ask until we are blue in the face why is Prince George at 133.9 and Brian forget about another tax hike on our gas as we pay the highest price for gas in Prince George.
Have a great weekend eneryone.
@habsfan. Whatever is going on at the hydro building it sure looks much better.
Gas prices are not locked to the price of crude. They are set on what the market will bear.
The only way to see lower gas prices is to use less. Since PG is the home of a high number of gas guzzling vehicles per capita, I don’t see that happening any time soon.
The BC Hydro building will be tore down after they build a new ooperations facility, part of their “Workplace Transformation Initiative”.
“I heard that the ice is off of Summit Lake. Is that true?”
I can’t speak for Summit Lake but I was at Ferguson lake last weekend and there was still a fair amount of ice on it.
Jim13135:
“Maybe we could have a contest to come up with a creative new name that would fairly describe our fine city??”
When the names are changed, they all seem to incorporate the words “Northern B.C.”, so perhaps we should just call P.G., Northern B.C. NBC for short. :P
I wonder what the people of the real Northern B.C. think about centrally located P.G. calling everything Northern B.C.?
It looks like a beautiful day, have a great weekend, everybody! :)
As for a new name for PG, how about “Tree Stump”?
“”As for a new name for PG, how about “Tree Stump?””
Tree Stump?? And here I thought the first come back would have something to do with pot holes!!!
Alright, how about Crater City?
Crater City!! Can you come up with a good slogan for it??
Crater City: They’ve been here for 100 years- get over it.
This pothole thing is painful every single year. My prediction for Christmas is that someone posts about how they’re blown away that the annual snow budget has nearly been spent already.
Crater City, “we care more about accessories than infrastructure” Come visit our PAC!
Hey what about all the flashing adds on this site. You guessed it they are driving me crazy.
And then I need flash player as well. Is that so I can see all the flashing adds.
Yah I like Crater City.
Cheers
There is also the Northern Lights Wildlife Society in Telkwa. They have a lot of experience raising bears.
Hydro needed a larger workshop for adjusting the smart meters, thus a new building:)
Do the cops drive around with there windows down, even a crack…to hear the whir of studded tires ripping up the roads….
Costco is putting in a Gas Station. Not sure if it is going there but that is my best guess. Why would they put it anywhere else. Or it is another Timmies. LOL
“Hey what about all the flashing adds on this site. You guessed it they are driving me crazy. “
This site has ads? I did not know that. :)
You need to use a browser that lets you install adblock Retired 02. In my opinion it’s the only way that makes this site useable.
How about “Pigs Gorge”!
We could have a giant pig splashing around in a giant pot hole with timmies garbage cups all around! LOL!
NoWay: “Costco is putting in a Gas Station.”
I hope you’re right.
faxman: “This site has ads?”
Ads are a necessary evil. I don’t bother with ad-blocking software, and I don’t click on banner ads. Maybe somebody does.

Realityjunky and doneright Angelika and her husband have allready driven the 5 hours and spent 5hours trapping the cubs they are now doing well in Telwa. Thank you for the suggestions. Global Tv is covering the story at 6 tonight, I have not heard of any local coverage.
Here is Angelika’s story

If Costco is putting in a new gas station don’t expect low gas prices as they only want to get in on the gouge that we put up with. They’ll be set at 133.5
“Ads are a necessary evil. I don’t bother with ad-blocking software, and I don’t click on banner ads. Maybe somebody does.”
I’m pretty sure that the sales pitch is based on the number of hits that this site gets and not the number of clicks that the banner ads get. So we both win here; the site gets to tell the advertiser that I visit here 100 times a day and thereby gets their revenue and I get ad free viewing pleasure.
honda north moving to wood wheaton site…..the 1st ave site is contaminated as it once was a gas station….mr wood was smart to buy the business , but i think he did not have to take the property.
hammy: “If Costco is putting in a new gas station don’t expect low gas prices as they only want to get in on the gouge that we put up with. They’ll be set at 133.5”
If that’s the case, I would be surprised. In other towns, they are often the lowest price, or at least not part of the consortium that raises prices the minute others do. Time will tell I guess.
faxman: “I’m pretty sure that the sales pitch is based on the number of hits that this site gets and not the number of clicks that the banner ads get. “
Yes, that’s how it works. That how you see this site claiming ‘millions of hits’. Every time a page loads with 15 banner ads, that’s 15 ‘hits’.
250, The date is May 11 2012, not 2015 although I wish it was as we’d be dancing to a new Government.
Yes Costco is putting in a gas station. I heard a rumor and the best way to deal with a rumor is ask. The girl at the till confirmed that they are putting in a gas station. Is that what is going in at the corner? Only time will tell.
“If Costco is putting in a new gas station don’t expect low gas prices as they only want to get in on the gouge that we put up with. They’ll be set at 133.5”
Maybe they will, maybe they won’t have the same price. They have the cheapest price for propane fills so you would think that their gas price would be cheaper.
Either way you will save just from the extra rebate you get back from the Executive membership and or the AMEX rebate if you have their card.
Saveon, Superstore, what not Costco.
If the opening starts a gas war everybody wins. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/story/2011/10/27/ottawa-gas-prices-drop.html

Interesting.
Well, if we follow the general principle PG will end up named “University City of Northern BC”.
Good morning, class. Today’s lesson is based on my experience yesterday. Yesterday, I ran out of gasoline in my car. Silly me, eh? Faulty gas gauge,I guess. Anyhoo, I was up in College Heights near a few petrol stations. I went to two of them hoping to maybe borrow a one gallon gas can with gas in it to enable me to bring my car in to gas up. Guess what? They don’t do that anymore. The law I suppose AND company policy. They won’t lend me a gallon of gas. She said something about selling gas in containers. I ended up calling my neighbour to bring some gas to me. He did. If I ever quarrel with him I will call the cops on him and tell them what he did. Your homework assignment is to go to any gas station and ask them if you can get a can of gas for your car because you ran out of gas. As for renaming PG Crater City, I’m good with that. If the shoe fits and you don’t trip in a pot hole, wear it.
JohnnyBelt, I don’t think you understand oil economics. Here is a brief overview:
1) if demand increases – pump prices increase, because they need to keep bringing in new gas.
2) if demand decreases – pump prices increase, becuase they bring in less fuel to meet demand, therefore supply decreases and there is more demand for what supply there is, therefore demand increases (see 1).
3) if oil prices increase, gas prices increase right away, because the raw costs just increased (even though it takes a month or 2 for the fuel to make it to the gas pumps.
4) if oil prices decrease, prices stay the same or drops a little, because they have to use up all of the old gas first.
5) if there is a war, revolution, or such, prices increase, because this threatends the supply of oil and leads to less supply and higher prices.
6) natural disaters, prices increase, because see 5.
7) whatever other reason they can think of, prices will increase, becuase they can
Has there been ANY street sweeping done ?
Major roadway like Ahbau STILL has NOT been done.
It would be great if they did the sweeping when it is raining out, this way there is no dust and they would save money because they would not need a water truck and driver.
Come-On City of PG-get it together before the people RUSH city hall and hall your butts out of office.
This is to the Mayor – I do not care who you are going to the White Spot at 9:00 in the morning with – Skakun or whomever. But one thing for sure – if a senior gentleman takes the time to hold the door open for you, the least you could do is have the courtesy of saying thank you. By the way he did address you as your worship! It is good to see at least some people have manners in this city…
They used up their sweeping budget already.
Thunderboltz: You forgot some…
If we are currently in a month with a vowel in the name, the price of fuel increases…..
If we are anywhere near a long weekend, the price of fuel increases……
If a butterfly flaps its wings in Tokyo, the price of fuel increases……
Good news if Costco is actually building a gas station. When they opened in Victoria they did drive prices down as they tried to gain market share and according to gas buddy are still a penny lower than most stations.
Can’t remember how long it has been since we have seen a gas war.
Mercenary
See #7.
“By the way he did address you as your worship!’
The “Your Worship” shtick is going out of style, sadly not fast enough! Mr./Mrs./Ms. Mayor is plenty respectful enough, in my opinion!
Harb: “Good morning, class. Today’s lesson is based on my experience yesterday. Yesterday, I ran out of gasoline in my car. Silly me, eh? Faulty gas gauge,I guess.”
Moral of the story, don’t run out of gas.
Thunder: “JohnnyBelt, I don’t think you understand oil economics. Here is a brief overview:”
My understanding is the same as yours. I was just responding to those who think because the price of crude goes down, the price of gas should fall in lockstep. Thanks though.
JohnnyBelt No prob.
People need to understand that there is economics and oil economics. These are not the same.
You want a new Slogan, here is one
“We are Winter” this is the most stupid one I have heard !
“those who think because the price of crude goes down, the price of gas should fall in lockstep.”
Sort of like the price of lumber drops or rises and the price of house contruction goes down and up…..
Well, actually compared to construction costs, when the price of oil drops, the price of gas does move up and down with it much more rapidly.
http://www.stat.pitt.edu/stoffer/tsa3/oil_gas.pdf
JohnnyBelt may want to look at the graph in figure 1 of the linked file. I think the relationship between the price of crude and the price of gasoline at the pump is quite clear. ;-)
There is also potash economics …. and grain economics … and kleenex economics …
I mean, a person could spend years to gain a working knowledge of the thousands of economics there are.
And they would still only know economics, which is not saying much.
In the end, it is what it is.
LOL
“…… how long it has been since we have seen a gas war.”
Almost a hundred years. :-(
Saw a new sporting store by Costco. Anyone been?
http://www.ubcm.ca/EN/main/resources/resources/protocol-forms-address.html
Protocol for addressing the Mayor of a Canadina city from the “horse’s mouth” so to speak.
So, in conversation, such as when opening a door in a public space: Mayor Greene OR Ms. Green
The construction by Wood Wheaton is for the Honda dealership – not a Costco Gas Station.
“JohnnyBelt may want to look at the graph in figure 1 of the linked file. I think the relationship between the price of crude and the price of gasoline at the pump is quite clear. ;-)”
I looked at the US graph, although I don’t think it applies to the Canadian case. I would like to see a Canadian one (or even a PG one?), as we tend to pay more for everything here in Canada.
With the conversation of opening the door -I agree Ms Green or Mayor Green would be suffice. The point of it is: Courtesy…A thank you would have been in order to the gentleman. The councillor that was there said thank you and joked about maybe holding the door open for the mayor that was coming. Holding the door open for someone is a courtesy not a right…….
“With the conversation of opening the door -I agree Ms Green or Mayor Green would be suffice. The point of it is: Courtesy…”
Oh please, a lot is being made of this very minor ‘incident’. Can we save the faux indignity and outrage for all the other threads on this site? ;)
JohnnyBelt wrote: “I would like to see a Canadian one (or even a PG one?)”
Hey, do you want a lesson in how to use a search engine? … LOL
[url]http://gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx[url]
I think that one should do. Enjoy!
When you have a sense of entitlement you don’t say thank you! :-(
Mayor of Crater City….has a nice ring to it!!
When I put Boston in, along with Vancouver and the Canuck average for the past year, and then put the crude oil price in over the same period, the three gasoline price curves are very similar fluctuations and none address the August to November crude price dip.
When one looks over the long period of 5 years, the crude price and the gas price at the pump move up and down in close unison. The extreme highs and extreme lows in crude prices are softened a bit at the pump …..
How could anyone be civil to the Mayor and a couple of the councilors. My best hope would b e to ignore these so important people. So why be concerned about how they should be addressed and I cant express that on this site.
Harbinger, sorry you ran out of gas. But your sence of humore saw myou through it all. Wonder what would happen if Iran out of gas?
Cheers
oops … this should be better …http://gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx
Iran is out of gas????
“Saw a new sporting store by Costco. Anyone been?”
I think you’re referring to the new location of what used to be called Northern Troutfitters.
gus: “When one looks over the long period of 5 years, the crude price and the gas price at the pump move up and down in close unison. “
Either you have a liberal idea of what ‘close unison’ means, or I was looking at a different graph. I’d call it more of a ‘vague similarity’ over 5 years (BC Avg. vs. Crude Oil price). Looking at the chart for the last year, there’s not much correlation at all.
In any case, it doesn’t really matter. We all have to buy gas. Complaining about it might make us feel better, but it still costs the same.
hammy;
thanks for the date correction, nice to see one of us is paying attention!
;-)
Elaine Macdonald
@guesswhat. Was green too busy texting to look up? Kinda like the two times I’ve seen her doing that while driving?
I am confused ..;)It seems Rod Bellman (Rona)would like to open up a liquor store next to Rona (the old water bottling building). Rezoning went to 2nd reading. Another liquor store in this town? Is this the same person was/is on the Board of Directors… Treasurer of the Womens Recovery Center? ….$$$$$$$ Just wondering?
I would open a liquor store too if I could. They make nothing but money.
Whats all the fuzz about who sets the price for oil and gas.
I will give it too you in one line.
The London and New york stosk market set the price for a barrel of oil and the gas refineries set the price for gas plus the taxes add by different levels of government. Is this difficult to understand?
Cheers
Well I just read the reason for our potholes in the Citizen. Todd Whitcombe who writes a column over there said blame it on climate change. So we never had potholes before climate change, oh wait the climate has always been changing. Got some data to back it up Todd.
Friday funnies.
“Gas prices are not locked to the price of crude. They are set on what the market will bear” .. so what you are saying is the big gas companies gouge the people when they can, right? And we are supposed to support thier projects regardless of any danger to the environent? How typically pro oil of you johnnybutt.
I read in the Prince George Citizen on Thursday May 10 2012 on the front page in bold letters INFRASTRUCRURE CRICIS uNDER ROTTEN ROADS CITY SEWERS SUFFER
I had to check the date of the publication fo this news because it was news 10 years ago.
But: “so what you are saying is the big gas companies gouge the people when they can, right?”
Um yes. Along with pretty much everything else you buy, from food to other consumer goods. If the price is too high, you don’t buy it or you use less.
Welcome to the real world! Glad to have you with us!
Seen the Google Earth street view car driving around neighborhoods a number of times in the last week.
Soon we should get to look at our potholes up close on Google Earth for the next ten years.
If you forgot to rake and mow your lawn already it might be too late. Future employers will look up your house on street view and figure if the guy can’t mow his lawn….
Nice day today …. finally
