Prince George, BC.- The Lakeland Mill Fire Assistance fund has topped the $200 thousand dollar mark.
A surge in donation this week has pushed the fund to just over $216 thousand dollars and that does not include the proceeds from
the CNC Barbecue. That event alone raised more than $33 thousand dollars.
There have been a number of fundraisers set up throughout the community to assist those impacted by the fatal explosion and fire at the Lakeland Saw mill on April 23rd.
The fund will be administered by the Prince George Community Foundation which has yet to detail the criteria for receiving assistance.
The Foundation is taking very careful steps on how the money will be made available and has been in discussion with Burns Lake in an effort to avoid any of the issues or problems which arose in the delivery of funds in that community in the wake of the explosion and fire which levelled the Babine Forest Products Sawmill in January.

Its not a lot of money if going by a per capita ratio its only about a $1000 per employee. One would hope it goes to those seriously injured first and foremost.
Eagleone, I believe the injured are macabrely the best off as they have WCB coming in. The rest would be out of luck?
I honestly hope this money actually gets to the workers and their families.
I know only a small amount of money has actually been provided to employees injured in the Babine Forest Products explosion.
I think having the Tragedy Fund… Has been a Tragedy in its self. Creating more anger, and needless frustration to mill workers, and thier families.
It also has caused conflict amongst community members, uninjured workers and the society members who govern the flow of funds.
I sincerely hope PG does a better job of determining the division of funds- than Burns Lake.
Lakeland employee’s get 1 week more of pay, then that’s it. This money will be dealt out on a application basis i was told starting sometime in July.
anyone here know how much Babine recieved altogether?
Over 300 thousand.
WCB does not cover the costs indured for families to be with the injured out of town.
