Long Weekend Traffic Campaign Ready to Roll

Prince George, B.C.- This is the weekend when many head out on the roads to start their summer experience. Be warned, the RCMP Traffic Services will be in full force.
“We will have a full compliment of officers on the highways this weekend” says Staff Sergeant Pat McTiernan of North District. “We will be watching for aggressive drivers, those who follow too closely, those who pass on double lines and we will be checking for seatbelt use and of course there will be a focus on watching for distracted drivers as well as those who are impaired.”
In short, he says police will be looking for drivers who put others on the highways at risk.
This is considered to be the first long weekend of summer, and typically it is a weekend which has resulted in numerous deaths and injuries on the highways across the country. Staff McTiernan says the stats in this region are better than the national numbers, partly because of the efforts to let the public know about the enforcement campaign and the efforts of the officers on the roads.
According to provincial statistics for the last five years, about three people die and 489 people are injured in over 1,700 crashes on B.C. roads over the three-day weekend. Between 2007 and 2011, the average numbers of
crashes and injuries over the weekend, by region, were:
* North Central: 105 crashes, 19 injuries.
* Southern Interior: 280 crashes, 69 injuries.
* Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley: 1,116 crashes, 342 injuries.
* Vancouver Island: 230 crashes, 59 injuries.
While Staff McTiernan says the RCMP will be “all hands on deck” this weekend on the highways, don’t expect to see just typical RCMP vehicles “We will be using some non-typical police vehicles this weekend. A regular cruiser can’t effectively observe if a person is following too closely, but with the non typical vehicle, well, you just never know who is behind the wheel of that vehicle behind you.”
Those non typical vehicles include SUV’s and unmarked pick up trucks.
Staff McTiernan says the bottom line is, police want everyone to enjoy the long weekend, and to get to and from their destinations, safely.

Hope it warms up a bit for all those on the road and outdoor activities.. Frost tonight but good temperatures afterwords.
It will be nice to sit on the deck have a couple of beers and listen to the village sleep after the exoudus of our harried fun seekers.
We’ll be on the road on Tuesday in our slucher-six when the gas prices have dropped and the road is free of harried travlers. You guys have a great time.
Cheers
Next story will be the Red Cross warning us not to drown.
To those of you that are going to be worm food before the weekend is over,I`d say have a good after life but we all know there is nothing after this,and to all the safe drivers have a fun weekend.
I can hardly wait to see the stats…even though there are always warnings before the long weekends there are always dorks that cant read getting ticketed.Hopefully no good drivers die because of those douche bag drivers.
Really hope the police get stupid and Dumber off the road before they kill someone this weekend.
And I really hope nobody dies. And I hope those behind the wheel concentrate on their driving skills, maybe improve them a bit at let’s say, stopping at stop signs, signalling their intentions, slowing down a bit,yah, defensive driving, that would really help.
Be safe, be courteous and have a great weekend!
Keep right >>>>>>>
