Prince George, B.C.- Baseball in its purest form, youth playing for the love of the game, is what’s on tap this afternoon.

The Prince George Peewee AA Lomak Knights baseball club will see action on home field today, taking advantage of the long weekend.

The Knights, the all-star team for the Prince George Youth Baseball Association at the 11-12-year-old level, will face Quesnel in a “friendly” doubleheader at Volunteer Park (Field 3), with the first pitch set to be thrown at noon.

There is no admission charge  and the concession at Volunteer Park will be open.

Members of the team – Cole Schwing, Cole Beacom, Dustin Aldana, Jordan Arnett, Devin Sutton, Jarin Sutton, Zach Swanson, Scott Walters, Michael Schwab, Michael Taylor, Nigel Thompson, Jeremy Gervais, Seth Lapre, Ryan Bachand, Ryan Hampe, Quinten Astorino. All but Ryan Hampe and Michael Taylor will play this weekend, they are away for family reasons this long weekend.

Coaches of the team are Jim Swanson, Jason Schwing, James Sinclair, Connor Flynn, Mike Sutton, Darrell Gervais, Laine Thomsen, Jack Hinsche and Shane Taylor.

The Knights are thankful the Quesnel program continues to grow in numbers and caliber, under the guidance of Tracy Mero, providing additional opportunities for games. Quesnel’s registration number has grown from 121 to 193 in the past two years.

Earlier this season, the Knights played in Chilliwack, an exhibition weekend facing teams from the Lower Mainland, winning one of four games. The players on the team play in the competitive five-team city house league, and the Knights are eager to compete in the John Main Memorial Classic peewee elite tournament May 25-27 in North Delta. The team is also entered into top-calibre tournaments in July in Kamloops and Kelowna, and will represent the north region for provincials in Chilliwack on the August long weekend. It will be a busy summer, and the players are practicing 5-6 days per week to prepare.
