City Challenge Scaled Back

Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 3:57 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The City Challenge, which puts Prince George up against Kamloops in a fundraising drive for their respective SPCA shelters, continues, although Prince George has scaled back most of its activities.
“With the Lakeland Mill situation, we cannot, in all good conscience, ask people in the community to give like they have in the past. We know   this is a very generous community but we understand the priority is the Lakeland Fire Assistance Fund” says SPCA Regional Director Kathi Travers.
Two major events, the Fur Ball, and a pub night have been cancelled, but the garage sale set for Saturday , May 26th is still on.   It is set to take place at 7573 Hough Place from 9-2.

The  Lakeland Mill Fire Assistance Fund is very close to topping $250 thousand dollars, with news last week that the fund had hit the $216 thousand dollar mark and that did not include the $33 thousand raised at the CNC barbecue.
Although the North Cariboo branch of the SPCA has cancelled two of its events during this fundraising month,  it  hopes people will remember the animals and make a $2.00 donation to buy a paw print that will be placed on the giant fire hydrant at the Coast Inn of the North, or attend the garage sale set for next Saturday.

Why wasnt there this huge outpouring of charity when NCP burnt up? Are the regular workers who are simply out of work and not injured also enjoying this charity?

This is political (defunct energy system)– NCP wasn’t.

I just wanted to comment and say that I really enjoyed reading your blog post here. It was very informative and I also digg the way you write! Keep it up and I’ll be back to read more in the future.
