Prince George, B.C.- The Conservation Officers were very busy over the long weekend. They had indicated they would be   out in full force, and they were.

Over the long weekend, 6 Conservation Officers working with the Ministry of Forests, Ministry of the Environment and the RCMP in the Omineca region,   examined:

  • 37 Forest Recreation  sites

  • 13 violation tickets being issued,
  • 1 appearance notice being issued,
  • 2 eviction notices forcing people from Forest Recreation sites,
  • 2 stolen vehicles being recovered
  • And 2 other investigations being started

The violations encountered included:

Sgt. Smith says   the Conservation Officers, in conjunction with other agencies, have several compliance checks planned for the summer, to ensure the rules are being followed and there is no damage being done to Crown lands.

I was not aware that you needed insurance to ride a quad in BC. Isn’t that a Alberta only deal?

Glad to have CSO’s out and about and enforcing the basic tenets in our forests and parks, without them we might easily be over run by no mind fools ruining it for everyone else. Great job!

When you think about the very few CO’s in our province, it’s amazing there isn’t more poaching of animals and fish, forest fires, etc. We’re lucky to have such a fine and dedicated crew in the central Interior. Thanks folks!

Its the 1st year that it has been mandatory to have liability insurance on your quad if your going to travel on a forestry road or crown land.

“When you think about the very few CO’s in our province, it’s amazing there isn’t more poaching of animals and fish” .. I think there is a lot more going on that most people are aware of. Even the fish and wildlife say they are lucky if they catch 2% of it.

“are aware of” = aren’t aware of

Speaking of poaching what are the rules for natives on hunting and fishing?

They can hunt sustenance in thier territories without a license or tags. As it shouild be. Anyone who lives remote should be able to hunt for sustenance, like they do in Alaska.

It’s all about the money folks — bottom line.
They sure didn’t make any effort to inform us of insurance requirements for quads. Damn Liberals.

Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Why is it always someone else’s fault?

Well I sure have not heard of any insurance requirement for atvs, glad to know now though. There are a lot of dumb asses riding quads and side by sides so its probably a good thing to require 3rd party liability.

By the way, is the insurance required for off road dirt bikes on public lands as well?

Good to see the CO service getting active.
Their presence helps the law abiding majority enjoy a safe outdoors experience.
metalman.

We just decided that our little quad isn’t worth keeping! Old farts going for a ride. That amount of 3rd party liability insurance, for maybe using it 3 times a year (in the bush)!!NOT WORTH IT!!
Major money grab.

Your homeowners liability coverage is probably all thats required. Call your insurance company and have them email you what is covered.
