Prince George, B.C. – One person is  in hospital  with serious injuries following a crash  on highway 97  at Monterey Road this morning.

RCMP say  the crash  happened around 11:24  this morning.
The initial investigation would suggest  the  driver of a Saturn Ion sedan was travelling north bound on Highway 97 and indicated a left turn on to Monterey Road.

For some unknown reason, the driver suddenly changed the direction of the vehicle to the right, crossing the inside lane and striking a north bound Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

This collision caused the driver of the pickup to lose control and collide with a light standard on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The 32 year old male driver of the pickup truck was transported by the BC Ambulance Service to the University Hospital of Northern BC for treatment of serious injuries.
The 60 year old male driver of the Saturn was treated by paramedics and released at the scene. Both men are from Prince George and were alone in their vehicles.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Prince George RCMP Traffic Services Section with the assistance of a Collision Reconstructionist from the North District RCMP.
Charges under the Motor Vehicle Act have been laid against the driver of the Saturn.

North bound traffic on Highway 97 was down to one lane until approximately 1:00 PM. South bound traffic was slowed, but all lanes remained open.
