“left hand turn in front of motorcycle”? That happens so regularly that any biker who’s not expecting it WILL eventually end up like the guy in the photo. No such thing as a paranoid biker – they ARE all out to get us.

Wonder if bikes where invented today if they would be allowed on roads?

It would be interesting to find out how fast the bike was travelling also, but we never will.

Too fast to stop in time when the bike rider noticed that the car was turning left in spite of the fact that the bike had the right of way.

That’s only an assumption on your part Gus, unless you were involved in the crash. I have seen too many of these fast bikes being driven a lot faster than the speed limit. Not saying that is the case here, but it does happen.

If you run straight into anything, I cant see how it isnt your own fault. What was the rider doing? Texting?

You three assume that the rider was exceeding the speed limit, or not paying attention, why? Did all three of you witness the accident?
Have an honest look at the modest amount of damage to the motorcycle in the picture.
1) If you are being honest, would you not expect to see a badly crumpled bike if it had been travelling at a high rate of speed?
2) “two people with minor injuries”
“The driver of the motorcycle and his passenger suffered minor injuries.”
Uhm, does this maybe suggest that they were not going fast? Most people don’t walk away from a high speed collision with an automobile.
3) Is it possible to expand your minds enough to consider that the “suv” driver may have turned left when the m/c was very close? It happens. No time to react.
In more than four decades of riding experience, I have seen a great many near misses and unfortunately a few collisions due to left turns made in the path of a motorcycle. Some of them involved excessive speed on the part of the rider, most of them I would chaulk up to inattention by the driver turning left.

And for the record, the old Honda in the picture is not a crotch rocket, today, or when it was new.

I and my passenger walked away because I was not speeding, the suv turned DIRECTLY in front of me and she was so sorry because she” never saw me at all”. The fact that there is a 10 foot skid mark would indicate that I was paying attention there was simply no time. She was charged 100% at fault because I wasn’t speeding. the 10-12 witnesses said that I wasn’t speeding. The skid mark investigation by the rcmp proved that I wasn’t speeding. You three clearly don’t open your eyes enough either so I will no doubt be evading you one day also. I have been riding for 25 years and this is my first collision, lots of near misses from people not paying enough attention, people like you who are too busy looking for ways to criticize other peoples actions instead of watching what is actually happening, You can go back to blindly judging other people now. Thanks!

B.Green, thanks for that. And it doesn’t matter if you’re on four wheels or two, stupid drivers will make stupid decisions, in this case it was the operator of the SUV who screwed up.
I put convex mirrors on my side mirrors to help me with MC’s behind me, don’t have any junk hanging from the rear view, and I do my best to notice movement around me.
I really hope I don’t screw up, and it’s a lot to do with situational awareness.
On a lighter note, saw a girl walk in to a hydro pole yesterday while texting……
