Fatal Free Long Weekend on the Highways

Prince George, B.C. – The long weekend, typically one of the most serious when it comes to injuries or death on the highways, will go in the books as one that was safe.
The Provincial Traffic Unit had all available patrol vehicles working through the weekend. Despite high traffic volumes and some adverse rainy weather conditions, they found that most of the motoring public heard the call for reason and attention while travelling during the weekend.
Overall the unit made personal contact with approximately 400 motorists, who were either taking a chance or taking a risk.
Four vehicles were impounded for excessive speeding, with speeds in excess of 160 km/h.
Three (3) drivers were charged under the Criminal Code for Impaired Driving and two (2) drivers were charged with Driving While Prohibited.
The Provincial Traffic Unit wrote fewer tickets this year, but reported back that overall the traffic was heavy, drivers appeared reasonable and only a few took chances.
Staff Sergeant Pat McTiernan says more importantly, there were no fatal collisions, and no serious injury collisions in the Prince George area. "That is an outstanding accomplishment by everyone who was on our highways" says McTiernan, who adds, there were no fatal collisions thrughout the North over the long weekend, and no fatal crashes in the entire province.
The local Traffic Enforcement Agencies attribute these results to the increased presence of police patrol units on the highways this weekend, the increased awareness of the need to drive safely by the media and the motoring public themselves. McTiernan adds "Credit has to be given to all those drivers who took to the highways last weekend. This is proof that when the effort is made and motorists take their time, we can make our Provincial Highways a safer place to travel."

Good to hear however, we still have 3 dummies out there that are drinking and driving. Thankfully they were caught before anyone was killed and hope they lose their licenses for a long long time.
This the greatest news I’ve heard in a long time. Some people like bashing the police or whining about their tickets, they’re all alive and safe. Thanks for pushing hard, sounds like you folks kept dumb and dumber off the road!
