Great Day to Get Hooked On Fishing

Prince George, B.C. – Scores of young children turned out at Shane Lake in Forests For The World Sunday to help with the release of hundreds of rainbow trout.

The fish, all catchable size, were transported to the lake for the release by the Freshwater Fisheries Society, which had been holding the trout for about a year. They were originally from the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery in Abbotsford. 1500 trout were released into the lake last Tuesday, 200 to 300 were released Sunday and another load will be introduced into the lake in the first two weeks of June.

The trout release was made from the old dock on the northeast side of the lake, but it wasn’t the only attraction for the large number of families who ventured up Cranbrook Hill on a sunny day. The Prince George Polar Coachman Fly Fishing Club formally unveiled its new dock on the west side of the lake. The water in that location is much deeper than at the old dock. The project was spearheaded by Bob Graham with the Polar Coachman club and came about with the volunteer help of many individuals and sponsors, including Integris Credit Union, Canfor, Sinclair Enterprises, the Public Conservation Assistance Fund and the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.

In all Shane Lake provides a great opportunity for families and visitors to get outdoors and have a fun fishing experience.
