Upon arrival fire crews found the front of the Nak’azdli Men’s drop in center on fire. The crew of ten fire fighters quickly extinguished the blaze, but not before significant damage was done to the exterior of the building.

The nature of this fire is considered suspicious and is being actively investigated by the RCMP and the Fort St. James Fire Department.

Although the interior of the building was not damaged from the flames, there was significant smoke & water damage and damage to the building is estimated at $45,000.

This is the second suspicious fire in Ft. St. James in the past week. Constable Leslie Smith of North District RCMP says while  it is not known if the two fires are linked, it is very suspicious to have two arson cases in the same region within a week of each other.

Last week, the bottle depot in Ft. St. James went up in flames.

Anyone with information that could help in this investigation is asked to contact the Ft. St. James RCMP detachment at 250-996-8269, Fort St. James Fire Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
