Landscaping nearly complete at new Cancer Centre for the North
Prince George, B.C.- The Northern Cancer Centre under construction in Prince George, is pretty much complete.
Experts continue with the calibration and certification process for the two linear accelerators in the facility, a process which can take several months.
Once the equipment has been certified, the Centre will be complete, and it appears that completion date will be at least 2 months ahead of schedule. The original schedule anticipated the project would be completed and ready to receive patients in late fall of this year.
The 5,000 square metre Northern Cancer Centre is part of a $106 million dollar Cancer Control Strategy for the North. The Centre itself will have the two linear accelerators, used in the delivery of radiation therapy; one computerized-tomography (CT) simulator; a chemotherapy treatment unit; a pharmacy; general outpatient clinics; professional staff offices; and a parkade
Other aspects of the strategy include:
- Renovations to Prince George Regional Hospital to accommodate a new six-bed oncology unit; an expansion of pathology, laboratory and diagnostic imaging services; and additional support and office space
- Enhancement of up to 11 Northern Health sites in communities outside of Prince George
- The acquisition of new equipment and information technology, such as tele-health capability, at these sites to accommodate expansion of community cancer clinics
It was May 20th of last year, that the last concrete pour was made at the Northern Cancer Centre site.

Kordyban Lodge is moving along as well. Does anyone know whether it will be ready to receive guests by the time the Clinic will be ready, or how far apart the two are?
