Councillor Blind Sided By Lack of Support from Colleague
Thursday, June 7, 2012 @ 9:48 AM
Prince George- Councillor Garth Frizzell may have received the unanimous endorsement from the Prince George City council to seek election to the Board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities , but that meant little last week when the final vote was taken.
Councillor Cameron Stolz openly endorsed Raymond Louie , a Vancouver Councillor, who, along with Frizzell, was seeking the position of third Vice President of the association.
At the March 26th 2012 meeting of Prince George City Council,
"Moved by Councillor Skakun, seconded by Councillor Hall, that Council of the City of Prince George endorse Garth Frizzell to stand for election on FCM’s Board of Directors for the duration of the term; and that Council assumes all costs associated with Garth Frizzell attending FCM’s Board of Director meetings.
Carried Unanimously"
When contacted by Opinion 250 to explain the change in support, Stolz said he supported Louie "because it was a case of looking for the best person in dealing with the Prime Minister of Canada in our dealings". He did not reply when asked how a Vancouver Councillor would support the interests of Prince George.
Raymond Louie was elected to the post as 3rd Vice President.
It is the taxpayers of Prince George who cover the costs of Councillors and the Mayor when they attend meetings and conferences such as the FCM Annual Conference.
When asked by Opinion250 if Councillors from the City of Prince George attend these meetings to represent the City Of Prince George, Stolz hung up.
A total of four members of Council attended the meetings which were held in Saskatoon, Mayor Shari Green, Garth Frizzell, Frank Everitt and Cameron Stolz.

As Artie Johnson would say.
Verrrrrry Interessssting, but stuuupid.
Shokking! Councillor Stolz votes at PG City Council to support his fellow councillor Frizzell for the position of third Vice President of FCM he then goes to FCM on tax payers dime, along with Green and Everitt, and Stolz endorses Vancouver Louie for the position.. maybe costing Frizzell his job, absolutely astounding!
Now did both Green and Everitt vote to support their colleague Frizzell or did Green change her mind too and join Stolz as she most commonly does….unfortunatley the only vote for Frizzell may have been Everitt’s.
Stolz federal political aspirations are shining brightly.
He ran to replace that Jay Hill guy and lost correct?
I am embarrassed to have been one of the taxpayers who paid this moron to go represent our city. He apparrently has her Worship,s total lack of respect for the taxpayers
Not impressed, Stolz. It’s too bad he couldn’t put whatever personal issue he might have with Frizzell aside to support him.
This, combined with his failed attempt to be an MP shows that Cameron Stolz looks out for #1, and not the residents of this region.
You sir, have lost my vote. I am sorry I voted for you.
Did we elect a bunch of immature teenagers, the mayor phones O250 to say “I’m not talking to you” and another hangs up when asked a fair and valid question.
With folks like this running the show the question I would have… Where are we going and why are we in a handbasket?
Seems to me there is also a question about fiscal responsibility. Why are FOUR city reps going to a conference??? If this Council is so concerned about saving money, why not just send one person who could then file a report on the events? Oh I forgot, these are also the same people who voted themselves a raise whilst cutting jobs at City Hall….
One possibility, flowerchild:
Let’s set aside $350K for a Core Review, and spend every cent of it.
Let’s set aside xxx for expenses, and spend every cent of it.
choices.
I’m sorry I voted period!
Finally people are understanding Stolz is a MORON!
It is ALMOST funny….yes, Mr. Stolz’ political aspirations are well known and he contributes mightily to the collective arrogance of several members on this current council. For the first time in my own years of personal awareness of civic politics I am embarrassed beyond belief, and have zero respect for half of them. Yes, it is not an easy job – but c’mon, this is ridiculous.
Stolz is not only a moron, he is a two faced backstabbing moron!
Although I never voted for Stolz the last election – I am sorry that I voted for him in the first one that got him in the position in the first place.
It is no wonder that people don’t come out and vote at election time – look at what got voted in the last time – Miz Green and Mr. Stolz. SAD!
Stolz is quoted as saying: “it was a case of looking for the best person in dealing with the Prime Minister of Canada”
Just for argument’s sake, how often does FCM’s 3rd VP sit down with the PMOC and talk straight goods with him?
I am looking for a picture caption in the news from the past .. “Mr XXXX, 3rd VP of FCM after talks with the PMOC”.
Can’t find one. Wonder why.
As someone has already written above, what kind of person is not man enough to vote against a motion at local Council yet, when out of apparent reach of local eyes, votes as he should have in the first place if he were true to both himself and his community.
With stuff like this going on it is difficult to keep from being grumpy. ;-)
Monkeyboots …. I could write more about that article that you connected to …. but prefer not to ….. the Spitz thing is nothing compared to what they did to Koehler.
I thought the newspaper was starting to improve with the new publisher, but obviously they have some sensitivity training to go through before they can aspire to get back to being the paper they once were. :-(
You’re a mean one, Mister Grinch.
You really are a heel,
You’re as cuddly as a cactus, you’re as charming as an eel, Mister Grinch.
You’re a bad banana with a greasy black peel!
I remember when Stolz came to my door begging me for votes. I expressed my membership in a rival party, and he proceeded to argue with me trying to explain that it was federal. It felt good to slam the door in hisss face at that point
“Stolz said he supported Louie “because it was a case of looking for the best person in dealing with the Prime Minister of Canada in our dealings””
Yes of course. War in Afghanistan, potential economic crisis in Europe, global terrorism, keeping the Canadian economy afloat and potholes in Prince George. Yup, I see the connection here, LOL. Wow.
Only dolts vote for Stolz.
The Dike man strikes again. Only 2 and one half years and Stolz will be on the outside looking in once more. People like Stolz should never be on city council. Wonder if he stands in front of the mirror each morning admiring himself?
never a dull moment in PG politics….. I love the hang up option.
Don’t like what the public is asking at the other end, no problem, just cut them off. They’re just the people that voted for you…haha. Where’s the thinking. Regardless if another person might be better at talking to the Prime Minister, will they have PG on the brain or Vancouver?????? Gee I wonder.
Other than Mr. Skakun’s ideas on raising more money for roads, can anybody say what ideas the current City Council is coming up with to move this City forward?
Oh I forgot, the one idea they all seem to have was a raise in wages for themselves……. do they realize that is an extra cost, not another source of revenue????
mwk: “Other than Mr. Skakun’s ideas on raising more money for roads…”
Oh, you mean digging deeper into taxpayer’s pockets to make up for years of fiscal mismanagement? Not much of an idea…
Gus:”….. the Spitz thing is nothing compared to what they did to Koehler.”
OMG, they did something to Albert? Whatever could that be? Now I am really getting ticked off! Who are they?
Pretty good example of the current team in action. Is this what we would like to see in the area of teamwork? Looks pretty cutthroat to me.
“Doltz Vote Stolz” — how’s that for a campaign slogan?
“and that Council assumes all costs” .. really? I thougth WE assumed all costs.
Sort of like Costco assuming all costs associated with their staff travelling to conferences.
Actually we, the customers who spend our money there assume all the costs. ;-)
Kinda strange how that all works. Wonder where we get all the money from.
Costco sells its customers a product…council sells its financiers BS.
