Flood Warning Issued

Prince George, B.C.- The B.C. River Forecast Centre has upgraded the Flood Watch to a full Flood Warning on the Fraser river for Prince George and upstream
The Upper Fraser River and its tributaries have been responding to significant rainfall over the past 2 days, with 48âhour rainfall amounts in the 25â75 mm range.
As of this morning current river conditions include:
• Fraser River at Hansard (08KA004): 1750 m3/s and rising rapidly (approaching 2âyear flow)
• McGregor River at Lower Canyon (08KB003): 1430 m3/s and rising rapidly (5âyear flow)
• Fraser River at Shelley (08KB001): 2900 m3/s and rising (approaching 2âyear flow)
• Fraser River at South Fort George (08KE018): 8.33 m and rising at 4 cm/hr
With the current rises observed in the tributary channels, significant additional flows are expected through the Upper Fraser through today and into Friday. River levels at South Fort George are expected to reach flood stage (9.2â9.4 m) late on tonight or early Friday morning, and are expected to peak around midâday on Friday at 9.7â9.9 m. Flows are expected to recede later on Friday and into Saturday.
The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as conditions warrant.
Meantime, the City of Prince George’s Emergency Operations Centre remains at Level one, in a monitoring stage. Evacuation alerts have been issued to ten residences normally impacted by the Fraser flooding events.
