Maybe Prime Minister Harper Knows How To Fill In Potholes

The recent trip by three City Councillors and the Mayor to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference, is indicative of the mentality that exists at City hall.
Four people attended the meeting, when one would have been sufficient to get the news and updates as to what is taking place at the municipal level.
Why in the world Cameron Stolz would support the bid by a Vancouver Councillor over one of P.G.’s own is mind boggling. Especially when you take into account Stolz joined everyone else on council here in unanimously supporting Garth Frizzell’s bid for the same post, that being 3rd Vice President.
Stolz’s reasoning was that they need a person like Raymond Louie to be able to talk to the Prime Minister. The immediate question is , talk to the Prime Minister about what, “potholes “? Perhaps Harper has a line on a good piece of equipment that will fill in all those holes, or does Stolz figure we need someone to talk about security of the country, our place in world politics and of course that pressing issue of whether we should buy those F-35’s?
To his credit, Councillor Frank Everitt did make an attempt to see the pothole machine in operation, he also talked to the representatives of the company, but they were unable to get a machine on the scene.
If the council of the day felt that it wanted to move ahead in municipal action in Canada, why didn’t it send one person to Saskatoon and a city employee to Regina where the machines are made to see if we should buy one to tackle our horrendous pot hole problem?
Of course what would make more sense, shmoozing with the Prime Minister or looking for a piece of equipment or advice on how to tackle the problem? I’m sure if someone asks, Harper is a wealth of knowledge on potholes. He might even suggest that we use some of the old CF-18’s to fill them in.
The city residents can take great comfort im knowing that while they sleep at night, Councillor Stoltz has their national interests at heart.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

It just sounds dirty. It sounds like Stolz was offered some sort of backroom deal if he’d support Louie. Why else would he sell us out?
Councillor Stoltz only has his interests at heart.
Stolz’s latest back-stabbing move proves he is a very disingenuous councillor.. and he has lost my vote, he says one thing, does another….voted to support Councillor Frizzell here at council then renages when out of town…shame!
Stolz song: if you’re honest and you know it, Does your face truly show it?
Another useless PARTY paid for by the tax payer’s of P.G.
Louie is left of centre, Stolz is right of centre.
I’m not sure what a left of centre civic politician is going to be able to bring to a federal table in three years time when he is scheduled to be president of the FMC, especially when talking infrastructure other than holding out his palm begging for money.
I understand Louie has ambition and may at times be somewhat reckless about that. Even if he were to be able to squeeze more money out of Ottawa there are still three questions that would be nbice to debate or even have some more definite answers to.
1. Does it make a difference who the president of FCM is when it comes to how much money the feds will give for municipal infrastructure maintenance?
2. Can a president coming from a small, remote community with large fluctuating up and down economic cycles cut a better deal for those communities than one who comes from Canada’s third largest metropolitan areas?
3. Can a president who is a known supporter of left of centre politics and social philosophies negotiate effectiverly with a right of centre federal government?
“…our place in world politics and of course that pressing issue of whether we should buy those F-35âs?”
Don’t know why the mayor and the council don’t concentrate 100% on the running of the city!!! They act as if they have everything under control (sure!) and a lot of idle spare time to devote to issues which are the responsibility of other levels of governments!
Harper listens, perhaps, but then he does what he planned to do in the first place regardless who he talked to, Mr. Stolz!
That’s how he got to be the leader of the party and thereby Prime Minister! Rather than give you or anybody more infrastructure funds he will give you a lecture about how municipalities are already collecting enough taxes and that just they need to get their spending priorities in order! Followed by a lukewarm handshake and a pointing to the exit!
:-)
Raymond Louie appears to be a left of center politician – so why would Harper welcome a talk with him?
As far as I am concerned, the Mayor and all
the Councillors are useless! GO AWAY! And never comeback!!!!!!!!
It is my hope that all who voted for The Trading Card Guy and The Scented Candle Lady are enjoying their ability to absolutely nothing – its no wonder we are where we are! You all desire to drive on pot holed roads and pay big repair bills!
