Fraser Still Climbing

Friday, June 8, 2012 @ 4:14 PM

Graph  shows rapid rise in level of Fraser River at South Fort gauge.

Prince George, B.C.- While it is expected the Fraser  River will peak sometime this afternoon, the River Forecast Centre is noting that the Nechako River continues to rise.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre also  expects the Fraser to  temporarily recede, starting tomorrow,  although river levels will continue to fluctuate because of the significant snow pack.

The  state of local emergency remains in place for  the Farrell Street  area, and evacuation orders remain in place for  residents of 17 homes in that area.

While  gabion dikes have been set up along Farrell,  the City  says it might  put in  extra gabion baskets, but that all depends on the flow projections from the  River Forecast Centre.

The City’s Emergency Operations Centre  remains active.  River levels will be monitored over the weekend.
