Prince George, B.C. – While the immediate threat of flooding as a result of elevated levels of the Fraser River is over, the City is not ready to rescind it’s State of Local Emergency or the evacuation orders for people living in 17 residences along Farrell Street.
The delay is to allow experts to inspect the impacted homes, to ensure they are safe to be re-occupied. Those inspections will take up the balance of today and should be complete in time for a decision about lifting the evacuation orders by noon tomorrow.
The level of the Fraser River continues to drop, registering at 8.802 meters this hour and is expected to continue dropping for the balance of the week.
That doesn’t mean the flood threat is over.
The snowpack remains above normal levels for this time of year, especially with many high level regions receiving a fresh dumping of snow in late May during that cold snap.
