Financial Relief For PGX
Prince George, BC – Welcome news as preparations are underway for the 100th edition of the Prince George Exhibition…
The provincial government has announced a $70-thousand dollar gaming grant for the Prince George Agricultural and Historical Association to host this year’s centennial PGX.
Prince George-Mackenzie MLA, Pat Bell, points out the local association is deserving of its nomination for the 2012 Heritage Farm Award. "They bring together so many different organizations to make the PGX possible," says Bell. "Funding from the gaming grants is a key piece of the bigger picture."
Just this past Monday, PGX officials appeared before City Council to request an outstanding loan of $36-thousand dollars be forgiven, instead councillors opted in favour of asking staff to look for ways to assist the local non-profit. (click here for previous story)
No word just yet on what today’s grant announcement means for the group’s overall budget.

This is wonderful news…well deserved. They do a great job every year with the PGX. I look forward to it again this year.
mythoughts as well :-)
Could not happen to a better, hard working group of volunteers – 100 years worth of them.
At least the province is stepping up to assist. Unlike the city council.
This is great news.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but kudos to Pat Bell.
To mayor Green and councilor Stolz….please keep your pretentious smiling faces out of all PGX photo-ops.
Ditto Middle Finger!!
I agree middle finger! Pat Bell yes but not city council, they ddin’t help financially. But we see Pat’s face enough on every wendys burger.
Green, your council is sadly lacking in community priorities, and the example is coming from the top.
The province has taken the responsiblity of funding the Ex for its CENTENNARY ANNIVERSARY, a worthwhile event I would say.
You missed the boat.
F for fail, once again.
Mayor Green has once again demonstrated her total lack of leadership. The PGX is celebrating 100 years!! You would think that Mayor Green would lead council to embrace this and help the PGX have a banner year!
A one hundred year anniversary is big news.
It surprises me that the local government is not getting involved in promoting this, thereby putting PG in the spotlight.
Further, it is unconcionable that Theatre Northwest, serving a select few, gets a grant of $118,000.00, and council has the gall to deny the Exhibition, who serve thousands any help beyond “asking staff to look for ways to assist” What a bunch of maroons.
metalman.
In 1912, when the first Fall Fair was held, the province gave them $500. Bank of Canada inflation calculator only goes to 1914 ….
The 2012 value of $500 in 1914 is just over $10 thousand.
PGX? Didn’t they change the name? Even I have to agree for once, thanks Pat. I can’t believe I siad that.
I wonder what the population of PG was in 1912?
Yes Mayor Green, you’ve kept your distance from the PGX this long, please don’t grace us with any photo ops that have anything to do with the provincially funded PGX.
There was no PG in 1912 … no railway yet …
1913 it was apparently around 1,500 for South Fort George and the same for Central Fort George … so, presumably 3,000
I guess I will jump on the bandwagon here and say thanks to Pat Bell for helping direct the Exhibition toward a Provincial grant. _Unconscionable_ conduct by City Council for not supporting an event that could have promoted the city in a favourable light. Perhaps their reasoning is that the fewer people from away that experience our roads, the better.
More bandwagoning here; let’s hope that Green/Stoltz don’t try and muscle in on photo opportunities related to the Northern Exhibition/PGEx.
metalman.
Am I reading these comments to the point that Pat Bell will be one of the two or three Liberals re-elected next year? Could happen if he stays on our good side.
