Police Fire Shot, Stolen Car Carries On In Williams Lake

Saturday, June 16, 2012 @ 5:15 PM

Williams Lake, BC – RCMP in Williams Lake say an officer fired one shot at a suspect vehicle, after it’s alleged the vehicle rammed a police cruiser and narrowly missed the officer who was out on foot…

Williams Lake Detachment Commander, Inspector Warren Brown, says what became a lengthy pursuit early this morning, began when the vehicle drove through the front glass doors of the Overlander Pub Cold Beer and Wine store at approximately 3am.  The suspects performed the same ‘smash-and-grab’ maneuver at a second business.

Inspector Brown says witnesses were able to provide a description of the vehicle and it was located, but failed to stop for police.  Brown says a pursuit was not initiated due to the dangerous speeds and manner in which the suspect vehicle was being driven.

However, he says it was located a short time later and, in an effort to evade police, rammed one of the police cars – causing significant damage.  "The suspects then attempted to hit a police officer who was out on foot," says the inspector.  "The suspect vehicle narrowly missed the officer, who fired one shot at the vehicle.  The suspect vehicle then fled the area."

At approximately 4am, Alexis Creek RCMP located the vehicle at a road check on Highway 20, west of Williams Lake.  Police say after a lengthy pursuit on several forestry service roads, a spike belt disabled the vehicle.

One occupant was immediately apprehended, while the driver remains at-large.  Inspector Brown says there is no evidence to suggest either male was injured.  A 20-year-old man who is well-known to police is in custody facing a number of charges related to the incident.

A search is underway for the second suspect, described as a First Nations male, between 16 and 25 years of age, thin build, approximately six-feet tall, with facial hair.  He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie.

The vehicle involved in the spree had been stolen from a residence in Williams Lake.

Anyone who can provide the identity of the suspect at-large, or with any information pertaining to the incident, is asked to call the Williams Lake detachment at 250-392-6211, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Real estate prises should stay steady thanks to the ‘dirt bag’ factor :)

Oh my! Better get those two into a healing circle.

Large scale destruction at two businesses. Theft from the two businesses.
Theft of a vehicle plus damage to it. Attempted murder.
Damage to a police vehicle.
Evading arrest…!

But, every dark cloud has a silver lining:

The two misfit criminals were not injured!

What a relief!
