RDFFG And CRD Meeting Spells Good News For Barkerville
Directors from CRD and RDFFG gather outside schoolhouse in Barkerville
Barkerville, BC – The first-ever joint meeting between directors from the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the Cariboo Regional District in Barkerville has produced a pledge of $10-thousand dollars to the construction of a new schoolhouse at the National Historic Site.
The original Williams Creek Schoolhouse was destroyed by fire decades ago. The current building being used is less than half the size of the original and makes for less-than-ideal class size compositions during the numerous school field trips to Barkerville throughout its season.
Both regional districts have committed to raising $5000 each towards the replication project. "We are pleased to join with the Cariboo Regional District to support the Williams Creek Schoolhouse project," says RDFFG Chair, Art Kaehn. "This is a tangible example of how both organizations can come together to support a place like Barkerville, which is an incredible tourism and cultural resource for our area of the province."
In addition, both RDs signed a ‘Barkerville Accord’, agreeing to work collaboratively on issues of mutual interest in advancing the economic well-being and prosperity of the North and Central regions of BC.
