Wet. Soggy June
Prince George, B.C.- As the City of Prince George braces for another flood event, it should come as no surprise that June 2012 has already proven to be very, very wet.
According to data from Environment Canada, P.G. has already been hit with 91mm of rain as of the end of June 17th. That is nearly 20mm more than the 72.7 mm average for TOTAL rainfall for the whole month!
The wettest day in June’s weather record book was June 6th of 1960, when the city was awash in 38.9mm of rain in that 24 hour period.
The Fraser River and its tributaries are swollen with the rainfall and the spring melt from a much higher than normal snowpack. The Fraser could peak at 10.6 – 10.8 metres today or early tomorrow. The previous record high level for the Fraser was 10.442 meters, a mark that was set in June of 1972.
