Three Receive Queen’s Medal

Prince George, B.c.  – Three Prince George volunteers have received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal Award.
 
Ivy Whitfield and Jackie and Thom Ross, have been honoured for their years of dedicated service to the Special Olympics programs and services for the region. They were nominated by their peers and colleagues recognizing their significant contributions to the community and to society at large.

“For 25 years, Jackie and Thom Ross have provided a devoted service to this very special community by fundraising, coaches training, and coordinating a multitude of other programs,” said Dick Harris, MP for Cariboo-Prince George.  “Ivy Whitfield pioneered Special Olympics in Prince George in 1986, and to this day she continues to help build the organization through her vision to help change the lives of many for the better,” continued Harris.

 
MP Harris was appointed by the Queen through the Governor General of Canada , David Johnston, to confer 30 awards to Canadians in the region as a token of the Sovereign’s esteem for their services to their communities and to Canada .  The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal Award consists of a letter of commendation from the Governor General on behalf of the Queen, an official certificate and lapel pin, and a specially designed Medal.
 
“As strong mentors, as advocates for the good, as well as for being exemplary role models, it is my pleasure to present these Awards to Canadians who have done so much for so many,” concluded Harris.
