Prince George, B.C. – A little rain couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the young participants in this year’s “Girls Run for Fun” program who gathered at Fort George Park this morning for the closing event of the campaign.
Over 50 girls between 10 and 15 years old participated in the program this year. Organized by the RCMP’s Victim Services, Community Policing and General Duty Sections, the program is all about boosting self-esteem and sense of accomplishment for these young girls.
They took part in a 5-kilometre race that started in the park at 11am, and continued along Ingledew Street, Patricia Boulevard, Taylor Drive and finished at the picnic shelter at the park.
This year the girls running program was sponsored by Integris Credit Union, which provided the police agencies with the opportunity to offer it at no cost. This was the second year for “Girls Run for Fun.” The inaugural campaign last year attracted over 40 girls.
