Prince George – Contributions by supporters and sponsors at the 19th Annual Prince George Special Olympics Charity Golf Classic reached a record high of $ 62,000 over the weekend in support of special olympics athletes and their programs.
Volunteer fundraising coordinators Jeanne and Andy Clough were thrilled with the outcome. “It takes the whole year to organize and raise funds through this event and at times we were concerned we’d fall short of our goal to raise at least what we did in previous years,” explained Mrs Clough. The region’s athletes rely heavily on community support for their programs and there is always much competition for the fundraising dollar. With economic times being tough for many and some previous corporate sponsors moving on to other commitments, volunteers were hoping that others would step up to fill the funding void.
“Word got out and replacement sponsors and individuals with generous hearts stepped up. They not only filled the void, but helped us surpass all other years. To see the joy on our athlete’s faces was reward enough,” said Clough.
The Prince George Special Olympics Charity Golf Classic is hosted by Dick Harris, MP. To-date this annual event has raised well over $500,000.
